Lofton needs to be...

Good point I rarely watch the games. Yeah the improvement in his passing is astonishing. He went from averaging 1.5 assists as a freshman to 2.1 this year. Holy crap! His rebounding is down from 3.6 a game as a freshman to 3.1 this year. Wow what improvement! His all around game is so much better. His steals per game where were 1.3 as a frosh to 1.3 now. His free throw % is lower than it was as a freshman.

What vast improvement, maybe you are the one who should pay attention a little more. Thanks for playing though.
:horse:come on guys can't we all just get along

So Lofton isn't a great shooter?

Yes, he is. That statement was hard to word w/o being taken the wrong way. I'm saying he gets the rep of being ONLY a great shooter, and not good at anything else. Hence why I said "Lofton is known as a great shooter only", could've worded it better, but I meant it differently than you and others took it.

The point was to say that that guy said Lofton was playing "terrible" due to his poor shooting early wasn't taking into account all the other things Lofton brings, which he didn't bring as a Freshman and not much as a Sophomore. He penetrates better, passes better and plays better defense. To classify his play as "terrible" solely on his shooting is just crazy, b/c he does so much more.

Wow, for someone who is so clueless, you sure do talk a lot of crap. Lofton being known as a great shooter has something to do with his career 42.4 3 point percentage, don't you think?

See above, you took it wrong or I wrote it wrong, depends on POV.

Lofton has been our go-to guy for two and a half seasons, when you are as big a scoring threat as he is, I don't see the need to give the ball up, especially when you are hot and can score twenty.

I just think you both have holes in your arguments, Lofton hasn't been terrible this year, but you also aren't an idiot for recognizing that until the last few games he has had a very down year.

Having a very down year is NOT saying he has been "terrible". Being down from 20 to 13 ppg is NOT terrible. Struggling, yes, terrible, no.

Other than the statement you misread and then called me clueless over, we totally agree on this.

Well when you're a one dimensional player and that one dimension isn't working for you, what does that make you?

If you think Lofton's defense or his driving ability is what's going to make him money, then you're crazy.

Did I say that? No. Read, it helps. Lofton's bread and butter is his shot, no doubt, but he does more than shoot, and certainly enough that he cannot be classified as "terrible". If you want to say the guy is struggling, fine, I'll agree, but to call his play "terrible" is nuts.

I was merely pointing out that the other aspects of CL's game have improved as much or more than anyone we've had in awhile, and that he is a much better all around player than anyone ever could've anticipated.

I think Lofton has improved a lot in both counts during his college career, but doing it against UGA is one thing. Doing it in the NBA is something else.

if Lofton isn't a deadly threat from 3 land, he has no business on the floor. all of these other improved skills you describe are still not SEC level. His shooting, on the other hand, is otherworldly. He shouldn't have ever been benched because he can dictate how defenses play.

His driving has fallen off this year from last because he finishes much less and doesn't get many calls. Everything else appears about the same and he's still a man to man defensive liability at the 3.

I love the guy and think he's a perfect "Face of UT Hoops", but let's not make him out to be something he's not.

Would you classify his overall play as "terrible" at any point in his career?

his defense is terrible. Other than that, absolutely not. He has carried this program and helped CBP more than most fans would like to admit.

The threat he presents on the offensive end is the biggest weapon we have. We'd be foolish to lose that. In fact, I think we've been foolish in limiting his minutes so much this season, especially during our droughts.

That said, I don't see his other "improved" skills as a big deal. His rekindled shooting is the biggest deal in the SEC.

I never meant to imply that his other skills are all world, or all state for that matter. The guy called his play this year "terrible", and all I maintain is that with all his other skills, plus the fact that you HAVE to plan for him, that "terrible" could not be the word to describe his play.

I love how after about 8 pages of bashing, some people are actually starting to see what I was talking about...

Sure was benching him a good idea? NO!

But was I right in saying that Lofty hasn't been the same this year, and hasn't improved THAT MUCH in other areas to make up for his down shooting performance? YES!

Thats all I meant...looks like hes got his shot back thus far...we'll see how it is against Vandy again, Miss State, UK again, and FL...but as of the past 3 games he can shoot now...

With that said..I WAS RIGHT in sayin that Lofty needs to step it up. I'm sure if you ask him right now if hes perfectly happy with his play this season, he wouldnt be satisfied. And sure you can say "no player should ever be satisfied." But I'm sure Lofty agrees himself that he hasnt played up to potential this season.

BUUUTTTT...theres PLENTY of time left...and all that matters is=SEC TITLE, FINAL 4 RUN...thats it...

So...GO VOLS!!!!

This thread should be deleted - and for 2 reasons.

1) The insane amount of bashing.

2) The fact that this thread is arguable the stupidest thread ever created and Lofton is playing well (yet it still was the dumbest idea before he started shooting well).

What was the name of this thread again?

Maybe lofton got a look at this thread because he is playing GREAT now! this thread should prolly be deleted tho its totally irrelevant to how he is playing now or even then for that matter you dont bench your star player especially not your team captain and leader

Someone needs to email this thread to CBP. It's obvious he is just not thinking straight and this may help him out.

Come on Bruce, do the right thing!
