Lol hopson

He was rated like that because of his upside. It says it right there. Had we had a coach good enough to turn that upside into legitimate production, he could be right there with them.

Nobody likes to look at that angle.

So a good coach will turn every headcase into a mentally tough player?

Scotty Hopson is Vince Young. Pampered, mentally weak, dillusional at times, and dramatic. Doesn't matter who coaches VY and it doesn't matter who coaches Hopson. It's not going to change.

A good coach will put him in his place, regardless of where he was ranked on signing day. Whether or not that changes his production is impossible to say.

Saying that it wouldn't help, though, is ridiculous. With a more strict coach, Hopson would be a better player.

Who knows. He could have quit basketball and been back in Ky. It's a different ballgame with him.

lol @ people who want an Elite 8 starter gone. I hope you still feel this way if it turns out Tennessee doesn't make the Sweet 16 for another 10 years. I hope that's not the case but it's certainly a possibility.

With the way some fans talk about Hopson, let's hope recruits don't read this garbage. A lot of them will be turned off by the idea of having to play for a bunch of moron fans.

i did not want him to leave. he could have helped us a lot next season, but he chose to enter the draft, which will be the biggest mistake he will ever make. he won't be drafted, and even if he is, will not make the team. after thinking about it, we will be better off without him, since i don't think we will have any pouters on next year's team, like he was.

Going now he knows where he stands. He could get drafted. If he waited until after next year, he would not get drafted. So many players stayed this year that he would have no chance of getting taken in 2 rounds. It was the best move for him, bar none.

Yeah, with Hopson gone, no way we will do anything for the next 10 years. Makes perfect sense. :lolabove:

may not be an nba season next year. he could have stayed, had a great year and then been drafted possibly in the late first round. hard to really say want would and will not happen.

This string is yet one more example that "VFL" is a one-way deal. It is a meaningless phrase when we consistently denigrate anyone who does not do exactly what we "fans" want them to do. Sad.

Wish you well, Scotty - thanks for your efforts on behalf of UT - I have some fond memories of you and I hope you keep some fond memories of your time in Knoxville. GBO

Was Scotty a VFL?

Yeah, because the fans totally control the VFL program at UT. Discussing any player in any way other than unconditional praise destroys the program.

Depends on your definition - I have a feeling that he did a lot more for UT athletics than most of the "fans" posting on here. Kinda sad that everyone wants to hate on this kid for trying to follow his dream. A true family would support him in whatever he tries to do, so guess you aren't a "VFL" either.

If he waited, he had to be All-America next year to be a 1st rounder. The chances are very, very small.

If he manages to get taken in the 1st round this year, he'll have a guaranteed contract. He won't get money during the lockout, but would get the money once it's settled.

Hopson had MAYBE 10% chance at guaranteed money next year. I'd say he's around 30% this year.

I take every opportunity to ridicule Pearl, but I disagree. Pearl could have certainly developed Hopson into a better player, but Hopson just doesn't have it mentally.

A disciplinarian could have (figuratively) beaten it into him
