Lynn Swann is terrible AD who refused to pay market value for any WBB head coach.
Karl Smesko is the Homerun hire of the mid-major route IMO.
I highly doubt that Kim would leave Texas unless her daughter's young family wanted to move to Tennessee with her, but BOY would I love it if she would! And I am positive that she'd have the Lady Vols back on top quicker than Walz would. Thing is, even though Kim is not a LVFL, she may as well be one judging by how much respect she's shown the program during her career. It was so obvious that she absolutely adored Pat, and fans would absolutely adore having someone like that on the sidelines.
What IF? It's something to dream about.![]()
https://www.swishappeal/2017/4/15/15311266/usc-disastrous-coaching-search-ncaawThe majority of women's basketball programs operate in the red. In light of that financial reality, please define "market value"?? Another way to put it...if others choose to throw money down the drain, should we do so as well?
What? I don't get your point. How would you feel about this candidate?
1978–1979 Saint Joseph's (assistant)
1979–1981 Bishop Kenrick HS (assistant)
1981–1985 Virginia (assistant)
This is the record of Luigi Auriemma before taking the head coaching job at UConn. The rest...as they say...is history.
I’m impressed that he started the program in 2001, netted 500 wins and is still only 48! Nb4 blasphemy, but Summittesque.Point being that his history with a mid major isn't in and of itself disqualifying. He, at least, is a head coach and has far more experience than Luigi. UConn took a chance on a guy with a very limited record and it paid off incredibly well.
You do realize that there was no sarcasm whatsoever in my comment. Smesko would be very high on my list! And I wouldn't be afraid of going the assistant route either.Point being that his history with a mid major isn't in and of itself disqualifying. He, at least, is a head coach and has far more experience than Luigi. UConn took a chance on a guy with a very limited record and it paid off incredibly well.

IF they hire KJH expect an exodus of current players. They're not going to stick around and see how she works out. All they're going to see is a 50% win/loss record (considerably worse even than Holly) and the dismal seasons she had at NC State, her only other Power 5 job, before she was fired. We will lose several I believe. Someone like Walz or Goestenkors who has been to the final four and coached high caliber players to success could convince them to stay.
And you know this how?I think Phil is letting the former players call this one so it will be on them if it does not work. Phil not gonna be around that long of course he wants to retire a success but he is hoping that is in football not women's basketball. I am sure he wants a coach to succeed, but this time around looks like the views of a lot of former players is gonna win the day. I'm sure the names they are bringing up are Harper, Fargas, and other former Lady Vols.
I honestly don't think a player exodus would occur. As for Kellie's record potentially being "considerably worse even than Holly," well, I completely disagree, and you saying that makes me kinda sorta hope she gets an opportunity to prove that statement wrong! Kellie got a team to this year's Sweet 16 with a roster full of no-names, and you could see on their faces that they all respected her, believed in her game plan, and would have walked through fire for her. That was NEVER the case with Holly, and that's why our all-American laden Lady Vols went home after the first game.
I know people keep ignoring the backstory about all that transpired at NCSt. and why that simply wasn't the right fit for her. But none of those issues would hinder Harper at Tennessee.
All I know is, whether it's Harper or someone I've never heard of, I'm just relieved that there will be a fresh start next season. No matter who it is I have a feeling the fans are going to be excited to see how the season plays out. I'll be getting tix no matter who gets to sit inthe Big Chair.
