Looking like KJH is the play

So you would rather hire a coach with zero coaching experience at the P-5 level than someone who has been there and had the chance to learn from her mistakes?

Makes sense.
Where did I say that? Tennessee has the resources to hire someone who has been successful as a major college head coach.

Alabama did offer the job to Rich Rodriguez, who was at West Virginia at the time before Saban.

They had previously talked to Saban, he turned them down and then Rich Rod accepted and then changed his mind. After that Saban was hired. As a matter of fact Spurrier was offered before Saban or Rodriguez and Spurrier told them to get Saban

@mtsuraider06 so if Walz hasn’t been considered, and Wes Moore is staying at NC State then who else besides Kelly is even being considered since you seem to know who’s not in the running?

I think the job is Kellie’s until she turns it down.

I think Gail is plan B. There’s no guarantee she could replicate what she did at Duke. Her time at Texas showed that. She was never able to make inroads in Texas recruiting circles, which are very fertile. Could she at Tennessee? It remains to be seen.

I think Cori Close at UCLA will get a call to gauge interest.

The reality is that fans want this big name coach, but big name coaches are already established and would take much more than TN is willing to pay to lure them away.

It’s been said several times here and other places that people trust Fulmer to do what’s right, but then in the next statement, criticize him for possibly hiring someone. Fulmer knows a hell of a lot more than posters on here who, more than likely, has never been to a Lady Vols game or followed the program. Fulmer knows when an agenda is being pushed. He isn’t crazy. Let him do his job.

No, it's a valid question. Kellie and her husband are clearly a package deal for the coaching staff.

It's reasonable to assume that after 15 years at three universities, someone would have noticed if anyone other than Kellie were " calling the shots."

Especially when she has received coach of the year honors in two different conferences.

Ok, were you impressed with Cuonzo Martin's 1 tournament appearance here at UT? And his body of work before?
No and No.......I thought Hamilton hired Cuonzo because he was squeaky clean and wanted that type of coach after the Pearl stuff. His lone tournament appearance that team underachieved considering the talent they had. They should have never been in the first 4, they should have been firmly in the tournament.

If you can't follow the implications of your own arguments, I see no point in wasting time trying to explain them to you.

You don't want Harper. We got it the first time.

I agree. I just hope she isn’t our first and lone choice. Swing for the fence and settle for a base hit if necessary.
I hope this is the case, but if Waltz is out as a candidate, then who is left that has the head coaching experience at a high profile school and would be willing to come. Realistically there probably are not that many candidates.

My argument was that Tennessee doesn't have to hire someone who has already failed in one major head coaching job. I never said they should hire someone without experience.

IF they hire KJH expect an exodus of current players. They're not going to stick around and see how she works out. All they're going to see is a 50% win/loss record (considerably worse even than Holly) and the dismal seasons she had at NC State, her only other Power 5 job, before she was fired. We will lose several I believe. Someone like Walz or Goestenkors who has been to the final four and coached high caliber players to success could convince them to stay.

I honestly don't think a player exodus would occur. As for Kellie's record potentially being "considerably worse even than Holly," well, I completely disagree, and you saying that makes me kinda sorta hope she gets an opportunity to prove that statement wrong! Kellie got a team to this year's Sweet 16 with a roster full of no-names, and you could see on their faces that they all respected her, believed in her game plan, and would have walked through fire for her. That was NEVER the case with Holly, and that's why our all-American laden Lady Vols went home after the first game.

I know people keep ignoring the backstory about all that transpired at NCSt. and why that simply wasn't the right fit for her. But none of those issues would hinder Harper at Tennessee.

All I know is, whether it's Harper or someone I've never heard of, I'm just relieved that there will be a fresh start next season. No matter who it is I have a feeling the fans are going to be excited to see how the season plays out. I'll be getting tix no matter who gets to sit in :pthe Big Chair.

Say the same after he hires Walz? 😏

To be honest I have no idea how good of a coach Kellie Harper is. I haven't watched any of her teams. So, my criticism isn't so much of her but this whole thought process.
WE'VE FOLLOWED THIS THOUGHT PROCESS BEFORE AT UT. Hire a former great guard that's part of Summitt's pedigree...and look how that turned out. It's just more of the same. I want something new! New thinking, new strategies, new blood in this program! Kellie Harper is just more of the same.
But, who knows. She might be a great coach.

Was Pruitt the first coach Fulmer interviewed?

Or maybe they'll see someone who coached up a team of overachievers and took them to a Sweet Sixteen while the mighty Lady Vols were sitting home watching the game on tv.

Maybe they could imagine themselves taking a Top Ten team to the limit instead of getting blown out. Maybe they could see the joy on the faces of the players and remembered how much fun playing used to be. Maybe they crave the comraderie of teammates and the respect of their opponents.

Wishful thinking. She has absolutely no track record of success prior to this season and she still had DOUBLE DIGIT losses this season. We're trying to have 30 win seasons again and she hasn't so much as sniffed that.

That's what the current players will see. She doesn't have the record to back it up, they'll leave.

So Harper has a similar resume. Cal should have never hired Cuonzo just like Tennessee is too big for KJH at this point

It looks like the search may be over. Hope this works out because a couple more years of this mess and the Lady Vol brand is done. If Kelley had not won the 2 games in the NCAA tournament would we still be hiring her. Is this about those 2 games? Or other things? Don’t like Walz, fine. Go get Gail G.

I so hope this leap of faith works out when we had a couple of sure things I do hope I can look back at this ,next year, and laugh at how wrong I was. I really do because to me it was never about the man, the woman, the VFLs, it was about a program I grew up with finding its way back to the top.
You are getting a little ahead of the game to think the search is over and Jolly-Harper has the job. Based on her performance in the tournament certainly entitles her for an interview. Whoever is chosen, we need to give them a chance and our support.

I think so. He interviewed Pruitt and Mel Tucker at Georgia. I'm not sure about the order.
Kevin Steele too. Only other name I remember was Chad Morris, and that was more of a makeup from Currie barely speaking to him in DFW. I asked the question because I didn’t know the answer. Point is, Pruitt blew up the first interview and that’s more of his process than order of interviews.

There is a difference in that Kellie has head coaching experience... Holly never had to be the bad guy and Kellie has been the bad guy not only being a LV with her team but as a head coach and she is intense.

This is not a ringing endorsement for Kellie because I want the best possible fit but her team put up some decent numbers against ranked opponents this year and held a pretty good Stanford team to a scoring to low score. She had a good game plan and I think the better athletes won.

Also Kellie made adjustments during the game. Not enough to win but there were adjustments and if something worked she stuck with it lol not went away from it like we have seen the LV do time and time again...

Again I just don’t think it’s more of the same because she was a lady vol if anything I think she would know the fan base and have a sense that oh sh!t I need to go sit in with some coaches and I can’t wave a magic wand and fix this. Side note what she did was with majority underclassmen. We got knocked out early last year with 2 All SEC seniors 🤬

Everything on here I can pretty much see but that in the bold, well it just doesn't touch base with me. Reason Holly recruited extremely well while here at UT and just the name alone LadyVols BBall program will open doors. IMO a proven coach would have no problem establishing this program in a hurry. ( the part about the pay well they're shelling out big time money in FB dept now and that's a big variance than the past.)
