1998 Florida. I still remember the stadium shaking to this day. If you go back and look on YouTube during overtime, you can see the CBS camera shaking during one of Florida's play's when they line up during overtime.I know they measure the decibels, but I wanna know what is the loudest you’ve ever heard Neyland???
I was at that Cal game as well as 98 Florida. My #2 behind Florida 98, is 2015 Oklahoma. But that Cal game was up there too. The opening kickoff when our guy just annihilated their return guy. Wish I coulda been there for 22 Bama.My answer as well (also went with my dad)
Doesn't get mentioned a lot but Cal 06 was really loud. I think many fans let out some 05 frustration
Auburn and Bo without a doubt. I was 16 and me a my buds lied to our parents and drove from Nashville to Knoxville. My parents where watching the game and saw us rushing the field. I never got into trouble for that. My Dad was so proud.1985 Auburn with Bo Jackson. The upper deck was vibrating.
1998 Florida
2022 Bama
Several Florida, Bama games come to mind
Oklahoma was very loud and was an inexcusable loss with how dominant the Vols were that night...
No doubt in my mind. We were in Section C Row 61. Our son's freshman year in the P.O.T.S. Band. He told us that during the pre-game show the band members couldn't hear themselves playing due to the excitement & decibel level from the Neyland crowd. The 1998 UF game is without a doubt the loudest I’ve personally witnessed. My dad was right next to me and we couldn’t hear anything when trying to speak to each other. It felt like an earthquake once the gator kicker missed the FG attempt.
I agree that was the loudest. But Florida had nowhere near 12,000 at that game. That fan base has never traveled well. They had 5000 at best.Every time this comes up -
1998 Florida, the others that usually get listed are above - but nothing was ever as loud. We had 10,000 more people in there than we do now, and the atmosphere was just beyond.
I suspect December 20 will maybe match it. We will have 10,000 less- but the whole place will be Vol fans. Florida had probably 12000 at that game - it was essentially a NC playoff game in September- this WILL be a NC playoff game, and the most important game in the history of the building. And the opposing team will only have 3500 tix (plus the few thousand who pay a fortune)- so the total net will be MORE Vols than 1998.
Get your lungs ready, and leave the little kids at home. 60 minutes of ear splitting terror!
The only huge games I missed since I started going was in 2015 against Oklahoma and 1996 against Florida. My first game was in The Downpour in 1992. I was so young I thought the stadium was going to collapse. I had no idea what to make of all the stomping and rattling.
1998 Florida was incredibly intense. There was hatred in the air that day and Al Wilson’s defense gave us something to be proud of. Neyland Stadium released 6 years of agony on the “3rd Saturday of September”.
2022 Alabama was also intense, but Hooker’s offense was breathtaking and the still in the stadium when TN had the ball was emphasized by the jubilation each time we made a big play, scoring 52 points. That was simply incredible, but not consistently loud. The defense was better than normal, but didn’t really give the fans something to sink their teeth into until the 4th quarter.
Honorable mention:
2013 Georgia (Second half)
2015 Georgia
2000 Florida
