Was there and would agree. The crowd noise went to a drone as the Gators lined up for the FG try, I think everyone in the stadium expected it to be good (was a relatively short attempt) and we would go to another OT period. I was in that endzone and when the ball went what looked like wide left (right from my prospective) I remember looking at the officials to see if they confirmed what I thought I had just seen. Then as John Ward so famously said pandemonium did reign. I was only 4 or 5 rows up from the field and people began coming down in droves and going on to the field. I didn't join them but it was a hoot having what turned out to be a front row seat to the goal posts coming down. Was a great game for our defense, Florida got something like 3 points on 3 or 4 redzone trips late. Of the games I've seen in person that one, the 1983 Bama game in Birmingham we won on Johnny Jones run, and the 1986 Sugar Bowl are my all time favorites. The 1998 UF game is without a doubt the loudest I’ve personally witnessed. My dad was right next to me and we couldn’t hear anything when trying to speak to each other. It felt like an earthquake once the gator kicker missed the FG attempt.
That’s the most rowdy crowd I’ve been a part of. When Phillips to the short pass from Shuler to the house the place exploded.1992 Florida is an underrated loud game. Good mention. That place was loud and got louder the harder it rained.
I forgot that I went to the 06 Cal game. Don't remember it being very loud, but I was in the nose bleeds. Not a fair comparison. Was on the 4th row for Wilhoit's game winner. That was bonkers. That I've personally been to:
#1 - 1998 Florida
#2 - 2004 Florida
#3 - 1998 Arkansas
#4 - 2006 California
That I could hear and sense through the TV:
#1 - 2015 Oklahoma
#2 - 2022 Alabama
this play came to mind for me. Unfortunately a squib kick and the famed Chavis mustang defense made sure the jubilation didn’t last long.#2 - 2001 Georgia - Travis Stephens screen pass at end of game to go ahead. Wall of noise that kept getting louder as he ran, felt upper deck sway more than I thought possible. Only time I've ever worried about safety being in the upper deck.
Honorable mention to 2013 Georgia. I wasn't at this game, but I have heard from several different folks that were in attendance that the blocked punt and touchdown were the loudest they had ever heard Neyland.
