Love this Dooley quote

Why do people always make it personal with Hat?

IMO He has a habit of putting things in a way that insults someone for believing certain things.

I can see how people could get upset, but it's really on them if they don't believe in what they are saying enough to where it doesn't bother them.

The lamest thing is when they bring up his post count. Nothing more pathetic and desperate than resorting to such a silly and trivial thing.

Is it just me, or is hatvol a complete douche?

Hat is no douche. One of the smarter members of the board. He's pretty confident in his opinions and defends them in a way that makes it seem like you are an idiot to believe otherwise.

Reminds me of someone else I know.

Not if you ask his self-proclaimed rival

This has been an entertaining thread to read. I'll throw my 2 cents in on this. The Dooley hire certainly didn't inspire lots of confidence in me at the time. However, the work he did pulling this recruiting class together was very impressive. He has a very impressive assistant coaching resume. Head coaching? Not so much. Will he be successful here? Obviously, I have no clue. But I'm willing to give him a chance. That's all any of us can do at this point.

Translation: "My claims to fame are that my father rode Herschel Walker's coattails to being the most overrated coach in SEC history and my mother is a loudmouthed Paula Deen wannabe. I couldn't stay ahead of Idaho in the WAC. So, I'll dumb down expectations regarding recruiting by playing to the orange overall wearing clowns who think "heart" trumps talent. That way, I can make it seem the mediocre rosters I assemble are the result of design and not rank incompetence."

Hate him all you want (yea he is being a douche) but this post does have some truth. Just throwing in the words emotional words like "Heart and "Soul", with the added "may not be five stars" does seem like an attempt to accept lower rated players. Then again they have been visiting several highly touted players recently. Maybe we should just wait a while.

That's the problem with what hat is saying here. Not just several highly touted players, pretty much everyone we are recruiting heavily right now are highly regarded guys with good offer lists. There are some that not many schools are going after but they are few and you will have that at every school.

Dooley is not talking about putting together a squad of underrated players, he's just saying that your leaders come from unlikely places sometimes and it's important to keep things in perspective in terms of what you are representing.

I love this. "Why do people always make it personal with Hat?" Maybe because if you disagree with him he challenges you not only on sports but how much money you make or the appearance of who has the better life. I think it's hilarious that a guy who acts like he has so money makes a comparison of HC for the Vols to running the Copper Cellar. Now that's "fine dinning."

It's just so funny how sports forecasting is right up there with being able to pick the lottery numbers each week. It's such a statistically unsupported cause that when people get such an opinion about it, it's, well it's just hilarious.

Look at Hat earlier in the BBall season. He wanted Pearl gone so bad you can taste it. It was so bad you can tell he gives money to the university but at nowhere near the rate where he has any kind of vote into the process, no matter how much money he says he makes.

Maybe....just maybe. He has absolutely no clue what he's talking about. Or maybe he does and Orgeron is the main reason why we were going to be so successful with his WHOLE three first round picks he coached.

Hat doesn't play those cards, he responds to them when they are played by others with overwhelming force.

Look, any of us that have been around this board for a couple of years have at some point disagreed with hat about something. I have a few times. I am a lot softer on Dooley than he is, in fact. And yet I've never initiated a peeing contest with him, and he has never initiated one with me.

I've seen these things go down way too many times. Hat is certainly a lightning rod because of how strongly he articulates and defends his opinions, but he is rarely the one who makes it personal first.

EDIT: And he said the Copper Cellar Corporation, which is actually pretty dominant in the restaurant landscape in Knoxville. But whatever.

I don't agree with about a quarter of what Hat says, but he's very knowledgable about basketball and if you have a question about recruiting or whatnot he is glad to share his info. He may be persistent and forceful in his opinions, but he's not a douche.
