Love this Dooley quote

I though persuasion was supposed to be one of Squire Dooley's real talents? That UVA Law background and all. If he can't manipulate a confused 20 year old, he probably should start looking for a new job. Barry Switzer convinced Troy Aikman to stay at Oklahoma and run the frigging wishbone for a season. That's what the great ones do.

See, you should have offered your assistance being that you could have so easily convinced him that he needed to stay.

His own father tried to get him to stay. It wasn't happening.

And I'm not so sure that Dooley was a very good lawyer. I don't even know if he's a good coach yet. I do know that you cannot indict him because of one player's decision to leave. What about the mass exodus of quality players when Kiffin got here? And I'm not talking about the ones who were booted.

You lack so much consistency sometimes.

Huh? Which team can't go 4 deep?

I'm talking more of a talent aspect. Back in the 80s, those teams in the hotbeds, had the talent to not lose much in terms of playing ability between the 1st string guy and the 3rd string guy. That's all I am saying. Now, there is a much bigger gap between those players.

I'm sure it had nothing to do with looking around and realizing he was on a ship about to capsize.

I would have liked to have read that for myself. Take the gamble or take a gamble.
It's a perfect counter point to make though because there is no way to criticize a question mark coach.

The idea is that we would be able to make a much better hire in December.

So, a kid with obvious emotional issues can see it but I'm supposed to ignore it? No thanks.

You are intended to take my post quite literally.

There are few signs that we are on a sinking ship. The players that are here all prefer Dooley to Kiffin.

That's only relative to your opinion regarding Aaron Douglas -- not to whether or not Dooley is a good coach.

Yeah, guys like Nike Reveiz, whose father cried like Jimmy Swaggart when Fulmer was fired, say they like the guy who is here better than the guy who dumped them for a program with better players. Shocking.

Again, it's only relative to what you are saying about Douglas. If the thought was that UT is a sinking ship, there would be more jumpers. There is quite a bit of talent coming in this year and a bunch from last. He convinced all the mid-termers to stay and several more talented players that were not coming to UT to jump aboard.

I don't know why you keep picking on Reveiz though. He was very, very good last year and he's going to be a special player for us this year.

We need a coach who wants to bleed orange, not jump ship because he was going to struggle building a program because of the shape it was left in. Kiffin has yet to build anything as a head coach.

Yeah, because Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU, USC, and Alabama have placed such a premium on "character" and "love of the jersey." I feel like I'm at some sort of ridiculous FCA meets Tony Robbins conference.
I just spewed ice tea all over my keyboard.

On this I will disagree.

I don't care if a coach bleeds orange or not. Do I want him to at least respect (or pretend to respect) the traditions? Sure. Whether or not he has a dog from Smokey's like or not really means nothing to me. Win, and do it as right of way as possible.

There's a lot of stuff I glazed over about Kiffin in my support that I don't necessarily like, but taking his "dream job" and a massive pay raise is one thing I really can't criticize him about.

Yeah, we don't "need" a guy to bleed orange. Mike Hamilton "needs" a guy that will at least try and project that to the media.

Go ask anyone who worked in the complex about how much USC crap was in there, and you might change your tune about Kiffin somewhat. Kiffin didn't care one iota about UT, and the only reason he took the job was because it was the highest profile one at the time. Who cares about if he took his "dream job", I would probably call it my dream job too if everything was already in place for me to be successful from Day 1. It's dummy proof.

The guy wasn't in it for the long haul anyway. I could tell that right from the start. He was going to bail as soon as anything opened up that was more attractive. Just so happens the NFL backed a dump truck full of money up to Pete Carroll's door and he jumped. I still don't believe that Kiffin didn't throw himself at that job either. I mean to be honest who could blame him. SC is in a lot better shape than Tennessee and they play in a relatively weak conference. It was a better situation and his supposed dream job. I still can't get over the fact he was showing USC highlights to potential recruits while he was here. Hamilton should have put a stop to that, should have also been a big fat red flag.

I want a coach that wants to bleed orange. We are UT, not USC or anyone else. Even if he's not part of the family, at least Dooley understands that embracing UT for UT is part of the process that will help us get up from where we are right now.

We knew about the USC stuff way back in the Spring. I don't see why everyone acts so surprised by that. We knew all along he was selling UT as the USC of the East.

I bet Saban is just enamored with living among rednecks and halfwits. He'll probably start wearing Houndstooth hats and bad plaid jackets on the sidelines. I don't give a damn if the coach replaces the game maxims with the lyrics to "Rumpshaker." Win. That's it.

If the old coach had attempted to stay and build something, instead of leaving us in the middle of the night and trying to sabotage our recruiting efforts, I wouldn't be half as harsh on his conduct.

Which perfectly illustrates why your posts here are not to be taken seriously.

There are a lot of good reasons to dislike Lane Kiffin. Because he left you in the middle of the night like a homesick lover is not a good one.

I am well aware of the stuff there. I am well aware of Kiffin's overall attitude towards UT.

I also doubt you would have cared one bit if he stays three years and is in a BCS game and darts.
