Love this Dooley quote

And what is it you need to know?

What you just posted doesn't suggest anything. Lane Kiffin brought a losing record as a head coach after having success with a big name coach too, but you supported that imbecile.

And don't give me that crap about the NFL being so different than Louisiana Tech. Dooley had worse talent compared to the teams he coached against than Kiffin did vs. the teams he faced. The Raiders had a much, much more even playing field.
Yeah, Louisiana Tech is at such a disadvantage compared to Utah State, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Idaho, et al. Hell, Dooley should have been named national coach of the year for ever winning a game there. Of course, that means Gary Crowton should be in the College Football Hall of Fame, but that's a different issue.

Barry Switzer, Jimmy Johnson, Dennis Erickson, and Jackie Sherrill are having a good laugh at that one. Latter day Tom Osborne also finds it humorous.

Hat, you would leave our program in worse shape than it's in already just to have one or two successful seasons.

Some of us think more of the program than that.

There's something to be said about doing it the right way.

I never said it predicted success. I just pointed out how nonsensical your post was.
Nonsensical is thinking Wil Muschump has Tennessee's best interests at heart and is going to put them on a guy who can build a national contender.

You mean with guys like Travis Henry, Leonard Little, Dwayne Goodrich, Albert Haynesworth, et al?

To those they lost to when they lost to them? Absolutely they were in worse shape. Do your research.

It's not like they just played cupcakes, they had Fresno and Boise twice a year too in addition to playing teams like LSU, Cal, MSU, Alabama, Kansas, LSU, Ole Miss. He was 2-1 vs. Utah State, 3-0 vs. New Mexico State, 3-0 vs. San Jose State, and 2-1 vs. Idaho. That shoots down your entire argument right there.

All you are doing is quoting whatever data you think supports your view of things and conveniently leaving out the important parts. It's fooling no one.

Guys that were never in serious trouble at UT. Not to mention that you are talking about one or two players over several years. I would think that's a pretty good track record.

I still don't see your point if you're trying to make one.

What's Fresno's record the last five years? You Dooley honks try to fluff up that nothing happening program and Hawaii to make this abysmal hire look better. The important fact is that this idiot couldn't win at the level the guy who damn near killed BYU's program could in the same job. Yet, you expect us all to act as if we've hired the young Knute Rockne. He was a nondescript, nothing happening coach in a nondescript, nothing happening league. Now, I'm supposed to believe he can compete for SEC championships. Yeah, and unicorns will deliver the winning Powerball to my office on flaming tablets of stone tomorrow.

Bob Stoops endorsed Chuck Long. Lou Holtz endorsed Bob Davie. Roy Williams endorsed Jerry Green. Dean Smith endorsed Buzz Peterson. Need more?

But you know so much more than these coaches that your choice of coaches would be better?

No, I don't. I don't expect you to be ga-ga over the hire. I just expected a fair amount of reason regarding it. I'm just not getting that from you.

I think I've poked enough holes in your reasoning to show that what you are using to come to your conclusions just does not support them.

You didn't like the hire and you're searching for even more reasons to be angry. I get it. I just don't agree with it.

EDIT: BTW, Fresno went 8-5, 4-8, 9-4, 7-6, and 8-5. Those last 3 was their record the years Dooley coached against them.

How about your beloved Chuck Smith, who broke a guy's jaw in a fight at the Last Lap while he was here? How about his running buddy Chris Mims, an open and avowed gang member? How about Carl Pickens, who essentially called his offensive coordinator retarded in SI? Chuck Webb, who never saw a roommates' stipend check he couldn't steal? Is that the "right way" you're talking about? Those are the guys who pulled this program out of the sewer. If you want choirboys, I'm sure they'll sell you a season ticket to watch the boys in Jefferson City.

Why would anyone just mindlessly follow a coach shilling for one of his cronies? The orange overall crowd fell all over itself slobbering about how Ol' Roy and El Deano endorsed Green and Peterson. Anyone who endorsed Jerry Green for a job more strenuous than taking move tickets with Mr. Fuji should never, ever be listened to again.

Could they have just missed? Did you ever think that could be the case?

Roy Williams shilled Steve Robinson, who put Florida State in the tank, Mike Dement who ruined SMU, and Neal Daugherty who tanked TCU. Could it be that he either just likes the ego stroke of having his guys getting jobs or is a horseshat judge of coaching talent?

But you use the opinion of basketball coaches all the time to back your opinion of Pearl. You can't have it both ways.

You're thinking of someone else. I don't know how Chuck Smith is going to work out as a coach.

And again you are talking about isolated cases. You'll find the same kind of record at any school -- regardless of success. You act like the only way to win is to do it with a-holes and criminals.

Those guys were all on the same team, and I left out Dale Carter, Anthony Morgan, Reggie Cobb, and Alvin Harper. Tennessee football never becomes nationally relevant in the cable TV era without those guys. Dooley would apparently rather have a bunch of Reviezes and Sullins "trying hard" and "caring about the jersey." I don't give a damn if they wipe their feet with the jersey, give me great players.

Why is it that pointing out the successes of coaches of 10+ years ago, is something that you throw out as relevant in today's college football world?? College football today is nothing like it was back then, mainly because of the scholarship limits that the NCAA installed in the early 90s. Things aren't the same as they were hat, so trying to draw conclusions about coaches then and now are irrelevant, strictly on the amount of talent one coach or team could possess at one time.

Yeah, because Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU, USC, and Alabama have placed such a premium on "character" and "love of the jersey." I feel like I'm at some sort of ridiculous FCA meets Tony Robbins conference.

As a person, I judge him as a coach on what I see.

But you still use the opinions of coaches. If you think coaches have agendas in all the stuff they do, those agendas can't all of a sudden go away when they express their thoughts on Pearl.

Again, you can't have it both ways.

Your still stuck in the past man. With all of the media coverage at UT now, it's almost impossible to sweep under the mat all the issues they had with all those guys when they played for UT.

As far as what Dooley said, all he is saying is he wants players that give their all for Tennessee, and to show up and play with a chip on their shoulders. He never said he wasn't going to recruit blue chip players, in fact he said you have to take calculated risks on those guys, but never take risks on the marginal players that display possibly the same character issues as the blue chippers. Come on man, stop penciling in words he didn't say.

Was it not you who bashed Pearl on Ramar and his background before Pearl brought him to UT.

I'm not. Pearl is a snitch. That is a matter of public record and fact. Period. Dooley couldn't win in the WAC. Another matter of public record and fact.

That has zero to do with what I posted.
