Love this Dooley quote

It's all about the talent in this league. You can get away with it in other conferences but not in this one. Every week is like tip toeing through a mine field, sooner or later you need bodies. I'll say one thing recruiting is truly going to make or break Dooley. If he can't pull top classes he won't win enough here to satisfy anyone.

I don't think anyone does. The roster has him with one arm tied around his back at least for this year. It's going to be a tough year, sigh.
Let's not pretend this just a "anything could happen" type of deal. We may not know for sure how good Dooley really is, but he's not in a situation that's 50/50.

But do you know enough to predict success?

No, and you and I have talked and you know that I am giving him these next 2 years to chalk up to experience. In 2012, I think we should be a minimum 8 win team, and that's probably the bare minimum win total I would be willing to accept by then.

I don't think you quite understood the question. Long term, who knows? Short term, the feeling on Dooley at the end of year one will probably be luke warm at best.

I'm not sure what you're saying here so I don't know how to respond. How long do you think Dooley gets?

I think he gets four years minimum and I think that's plenty of time. 10 win seasons are the expectation here, but if we are recruiting well and trending in the right direction he will get more.

4 years before BCS level, agreed. If his coaches can coach up our talent, maybe 2013.

Where would you place the odds, tvols?
I'd say the success level our fans want/expect is being consistently competitive, being competitive against our rivals, and winning the SEC title every 4-5 years. Going by that standard, I'd say the odds are far lower. I don't know enough to say he's going to be terrible for sure. It's really difficult to know what to expect about his coaching abilities, to be honest. I'd give him about a 10-15% chance of achieving the results we want.

I understand the only thing we can at this point is wait and see, but I think this will end poorly. I really wish we went the interim route.

You lack so much consistency sometimes.

Yeah, its comical and confusing at the same time.

Either hat realizes it and just doesn't care, so he conveniently ignores good points for the sake of stirring the pot, or he really is so blinded by his own opinions that he thinks he is the only one with a reasonable head on his shoulders (which is obviously ridiculous).

If you'll notice, Sab, even in your disagreement with hat, you make allowances for his side (i.e. "maybe it won't work out" or "let's wait and see") whereas hat acknowledges virtually nothing anyone else says as valid. Similar syndrome as a spoiled kid who is used to getting his own way all the time. For hats sake, I'm hoping it's on purpose.

Translation: "My claims to fame are that my father rode Herschel Walker's coattails to being the most overrated coach in SEC history and my mother is a loudmouthed Paula Deen wannabe. I couldn't stay ahead of Idaho in the WAC. So, I'll dumb down expectations regarding recruiting by playing to the orange overall wearing clowns who think "heart" trumps talent. That way, I can make it seem the mediocre rosters I assemble are the result of design and not rank incompetence."

Don't know where you live, but I certainly hope I don't live close by. This stuff could be catching.

What's Fresno's record the last five years? You Dooley honks try to fluff up that nothing happening program and Hawaii to make this abysmal hire look better. The important fact is that this idiot couldn't win at the level the guy who damn near killed BYU's program could in the same job. Yet, you expect us all to act as if we've hired the young Knute Rockne. He was a nondescript, nothing happening coach in a nondescript, nothing happening league. Now, I'm supposed to believe he can compete for SEC championships. Yeah, and unicorns will deliver the winning Powerball to my office on flaming tablets of stone tomorrow.

These points tell me more about how bad Kiffin hurt us by walking out when he did than it does about DD. Simple fact is Sumlin didn't take the job and he was rumored to have been offered. As many scholarships as we were down already we couldn't afford to lose more. DD was hired for NSD and on that one item he delivered. He didn't hit any grandslams but no HC would have as the 3rd HC at a slumping program. He did way better than any interim could have managed especially one with 0 HC experience like Brown. DD wasn't the wow guy. Our attempt at wow had just left us holding the bag. He wasn't the top record guy, those guys declined. What he is is the guy that accepted when we came calling. He is also the guy that held together a respectable class. The rest is all in front of us because nothing from last year or years prior counts towards anything of any use. I agree there is 0 reason on any W/L sheet to say that DD or 95% of any realistic potential coaches out there could turn this ship around in less that 4 years. Kiffin could have in 2 nonesense is literally flaming unicorns because he LEFT! Magical redbull, topless hostesses, and wise defensive gurus flew off to a more enchanted island where bribery never ends and the cupboard was already stacked.

The portion of your post that is complimentary to me aside (trying to say here you have excellent points without complimenting myself because that's not why I'm saying it), that is a very excellent post. You should certainly post more often.

I really don't know where this whole interim concept is coming from. There is no way we could have gone that route it would have seriously disrupted the program and killed our recruiting. That would have set us back even longer than we already are.

Only the future can tell if the correct decision was made.

It would have destroyed a recruiting class, but with a better hire next year, we would have been much, much better off. I'd rather lose a recruiting class than possibly being uncompetitive for 4-5 years.

It would have destroyed 2 recruiting classes and I'll remind you that the two QBs that we have on roster that are worth a damn both were mid-term guys that may have decided to go elsewhere. Then we're left with a Senior QB and NO ONE else.

It could have been disastrous and given the situation did not make any sense to do.
