‘23 LSU transfer OT Zalance Heard (Tennessee)

Big like 7 figures per year big??
Peay already said he had heard 7 figures.

And has been posted already:
- 5 Star LT
- 3 years to play
- Great PFF grades

The number will be huge.
We don’t do these….

Ive seen this movie too many times. Leverage...yadda. Maybe he chooses us, maybe not. Hopeful, not even gonna care.
Sounds like we will have to overspend especially since Mincey is gone. We can't go into Spring with the current group of OLs.

Not sure what choice we have. Also rumored he wants to play LT on top of all you posted.

I think that was a movie. I have heard of a "moment in time"
A movie... A movie? A movie?!

You whippersnappers. That's like saying 'The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe" was a movie. That's like saying "The Lord of the Rings" was a movie. That's like saying Resident Evil was a movie.

It was a classic book. :)

LA has mentioned multiple times that UT just doesn’t get involved in these.

-We don’t chase high profile bidding wars.
-We don’t upset current guys to pay big to new guys.

This guy sounds like the kind of portal add that ends up elsewhere.
Ahh yes so go into the season with Dayne Davis protecting your phenom QB bc you “don’t get involved in these”. What a strategy.

Beats hanging sheetrock!

But the question was simply LT vs RT, not whether you could make any money playing RT. Obviously, you can.

Darnell Wright, as already pointed out, is a fine example.
I helped coach my son's football team when he was in elementary school. I worked with the heavier kids that could only play on the line of scrimmage. I had a dad "request" I move his 8 yr old son from RT to LT. I told him his son played better on the right side of the line, had a natural RT step/push, and thought he would be more helpful to the team if he stayed at RT. The dad was dead set on me moving his son and I asked him why it mattered so much. He told me "because in the NFL, left tackles make more money than right tackles." I reminded the dad that we were playing 8U rec ball, nobody was getting paid, and I had to buy my whistle at Walmart.

*I get what you are saying and if a tackle/guard is better on the right side than the left side, hone your skills, and try to get paid. If you are a borderline NFL player, don't force a position change just because it pays more money. Seems like a bad business decision on Mincey's part

Yes we can. Might not be ideal, but we can see what we got and lure somebody into and out of May portal. Our older OL guys can fast track a quality guy over the summer and into fall camp. Lining up on the bridge is not warranted

I have no idea what happens here.

But if you put stock in what LA says, and I do, then there is clearly a choice - play the game or move on.

Sounds like we usually move on. And I don’t think that’s a bad strategy, provided it yields success.

Wouldn't be ideal tho. And that spring window usually don't produce many solid options. We not lining up on the bridge at this point. Gotta see what these young kids can do first.

That’s an idiotic strategy if true.

I understand and appreciate the strategy. And support it too.

It seems to be the reasonable and rational (shoutout Luther) approach that will pay benefits in the long run, and maintain the balance and consistency Heup obviously values.

I sincerely hope it’s successful. And if it’s not, I sincerely believe they will adjust.

Most likely will never win anything of significance if we’re worrying about hurt feelings. Gotta create a healthy but competitive culture. But don’t have a problem avoiding kids that are 100% just for the money. Gotta have a bit of both. Jmo

I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as “worrying about hurt feelings”. Not in this era.

We’re talking about the Portal here, managing the Portal. A big part of that is keeping the players you want and need out of it.

He was in a rush to get to his flight and did not have time to stop and talk. Have heard that the six hour whirlwind visit went well, and now he is off to Oklahoma for a visit there. As of now they don’t have any more visits set up after the trip to Norman.

Of course it went well. Do you think he would say it sucked. Means absolutely nothing
