‘23 LSU transfer OT Zalance Heard (Tennessee)

People need to get a grip. Georgia started a former walk-on at QB deeper than Year 4 in Kirby's stint at UGA. It didn't seem to bring their program crashing down. There is an amazing amount of group-think on this board that none of our players develop at all once they step on campus. If a freshman or sophomore Isn't starting, that means they're a bust and they'll never be able to improve and contribute.
Yeah let's pick a one in 1000 situation that is not repeatable across the country and use that for an honest comparison. Dayne Davis is not a good OT in the SEC and he's not going to magically morph into one next year

I don't think that's unusual or a bad sign for portal visits. They want to get in, talk to the staff, and get out. It's not about campus life. They've already adjusted to college. It's about meeting the staff, hearing the plan, talking $$$, and getting to a mutual decision quickly.

In the portal, there is the fear of entering the portal, waiting around, and finding yourself without a team.
Or in like in the movies, worms. Def be concerned with portal worms. That may not apply here, my bad.

Surrounded by 5* players, vastly different situation.

We have an abundance of dead weight on our OL roster. Kids that will never see the field, regardless of development time. If we can’t recruit/develop any impact players via high school in 4 recruiting cycles it’s alarming.

Only option remains portal and we are whiffing.

Most OL who become starters do in their third year. We had no class in 21 basically and 22 and 23 are not ready and have only been in program two years or less. It takes time and we need portal to get to the point where we will have OL ready and developed from the high school ranks. It is what it is and we need some portal dudes and if we don't get them, it is a problem next year and I think the coaches know it and are doing what they can to get a short term fix. Crying about it by them or you won't fix anything.

yikes.

well, ok.
Not surprising. Have a lot of visits in a short period of time. Basically it’s a business trip where you have to coordinate flight times. I will say definitely would’ve been better if he pushed back his OU visit but I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing.

def seems that way.

Again, a talk ask with little to no relationship bldg.

You’re not winning in the SEC with Dayne Davis as your starting tackle. I’m not saying he doesn’t have a spot on this roster, but he’s not a starter in the SEC. I’ve not been critical of this staff in the least, but that has to change.

Teams in the Sun Belt prob wouldn’t win the league with him starting at Tackle if we are being honest. He’s really bad as is Ollie Lane. That was a horrid combo.

Let’s continue to have an echo chamber to get posters to see the light, yeah that will change their viewpoint never mind the staff still has till the spring and summer months to fill needs from the portal.

Yep I wish several of them would start their own little corner and feed off each other’s negativity!

Can’t just wait to see what happens!

I will point out to everyone this is about money most of the time. Doesn’t look like Tennessee is spending a lot BUT you look at guys like Pearce, Omari, etc and those guys aren’t hitting the portal so you know they’re getting taken care of.

there are not enough quality players on the roster to win the SEC at this point no matter who starts at tackle.

You’re competing with Bama and UGA with Dayne Davis at OT? That’s silly.

You think that one position is gonna be the thing holding us back from competing with Bama and UGA?

I’m not saying we shouldn’t want better at RT (again, how do we even know he starts next year?) but to say if he’s the starter then that’s the one guy stopping us from competing with them is silly.

No. I think they are more talented across the board. But if Dayne Davis is your best option at tackle, then yes that alone is a huge difference maker. I don’t think he’s capable of playing at this level.
