You compared him to Stetson Bennett??the walk on narrative is tired. Dayne Davis has been on full scholarship the last three seasons. It’s the exact same thing as saying “i can’t believe UGA won back to back nattys with a walk on QB”
Davis has been a turnstyle at tackle for several years now. He’s looked like what he is every time we’ve had to play him, a walkon against SEC level talent. Maybe he looks average against our OOC cupcakes but that’s about it.Dayne Davis looked bad in the Iowa game...so did the rest of the line. Nico was sacked 6x. Iowas defense was highly ranked. But its not like Dayne only played one game ever. Hes had others and did fine.
That went completely over your head didn’t it. Should i say it again for you lil guy? He WAS a walk on (past tense). He’s NOW a scholarship player (present tense). If one would like to say “former walk on” knock oneself out. My example was using a former walk on who gained a scholarship, in an extreme scenario obviously. Also, i never said he was Trey Smith. But it’s disrespectful for no reason to pretend he didn’t earn a scholarshipYou compared him to Stetson Bennett??
An NFL player that beat out 2 Five Stars and won a 2 championships.
I'm sure you watched the Iowa game??
What part of that game did you see where Dayne Davis was even average? He gave up 4 sacks...
What he said was true, and the context of the comparison was spot on. The "walk-on" narrative is tired and disingenuous. It's possible to argue that he's bad without having to play the card that's simply untrue. He hasn't been a walk-on in a long time. You compared him to Stetson Bennett??

You're claiming he wasn't the best at his position? Not sure what argument you're making here. That the staff had no other option but to play someone who wasn't the best at his position? The key difference between Bennett/Shrader and Dayne Davis is that uga and mizzou played them because they were the best st their position, we played davis because we had no other option
And yet, Iowa had 6 sacks. Joe Evans a DE got 4 of those. Wonder what the breakdown is on who those were against? Asking because I really don't know. Not implying it was Davis....or Sampson.I'll go on record and guarantee Dayne Davis is not the starting RT on August 31st. Now that you have my guarantee you can stop all the had wringing. Heupel is no dummy. He knows the sacks and hits on Nico is not acceptable.
Huh? If they had "no other option", that would make him the best at his position by default. The fact that we didn't have anyone better and more prepared at the end of year 3 under this staff, with multiple classes and in the NIL/portal era is hard to comprehend. You can't help but question the evaluation, recruiting, development and coaching of the position. You're claiming he wasn't the best at his position? Not sure what argument you're making here. Idk who gave up what but both looked like crap. Sampson is young and undersized still; you have to think he can get bigger and better in pass protection. Davis is probably what you have is what you get; he’s a good backup player don’t want to piss on the guys effort or work but we simply have to be better there. And yet, Iowa had 6 sacks. OK. But you're kind of arguing my point. I responded to:Huh? If they had "no other option", that would make him the best at his position by default. Hey did you know Cody Shraeder was a walk on at Mizzou? He didn’t even play D1 out of high school. He was a walk on and best RB in the country! Are people really throwing Cody Schrader and Stetson Bennett out there as if their stories and success are in any way analogous to Dayne Davis? The mental backflips some will do to defend the sunshine!
Nope, not at all. Just merely pointing out that Dayne Davis isn’t a walk on. And referring to him as such is pretty ****** considering he earned a full scholarship 3 years agoAre people really throwing Cody Schrader and Stetson Bennett out there as if their stories and success are in any way analogous to Dayne Davis? Thank you for bringing substance to this thread. It'll be lost in the noise by many. The length of Heard’s visit isn’t a negative. He was just trying to squeeze in two visits in a short window. I know AP said he’ll take multiple visits, but the coaches read this as OU vs us. I don’t think there was a knife fight over LT vs RT guarantees. He does have “people” helping him beyond his parents, and that is never good. I don’t get the feeling that it stopped progress, but handlers always want something. Beyond that, he had a good visit and I really think he’ll just be making a choice driven by a number. We were very competitive there. I’ve heard that they want two OL and one or DB’s. All four is two over current limits (not my math). Mincey leaving created a hole that they have to fill. That isn’t a mystery to them. At the least, they have to sign one tackle who will get reps. We’ve talked to Lewis and Leonard and I know one is visiting. Can’t remember which.
The SEC has and always will be a line of scrimmage league. When bama and uga square off out of conference, that's the most noticeable difference to my eye between those teams and the opponent.Idk who gave up what but both looked like crap. I know people probably think some are overreacting here but this is where your battles are won or lost in recruiting. GMac even commented on Tennessee being in on a surprising amount of elite olinemen; elite QBs look at that. Where the elite QBs go usually the skill players go with them but everything starts up front.
Given how the pool is looking, one would think they'd have to over spend to secure his services? Still how does the staff handle the position demand? Isn't Crawford the defacto starter there? You bring Heard on and he takes the LT spot, wouldn't Crawford be a post spring portal risk? Back to square one but with a guy starting at LT who might not be as comfortable in the system as Crawford? The length of Heard’s visit isn’t a negative.
