‘23 LSU transfer OT Zalance Heard (Tennessee)

This class is the only class which looks solid, but it’s still not good enough. Needed Seaton. Our past classes are nowhere near good enough. AP and VQ have said multiple times how there are no obvious contributors, no one the staff is overly excited about. OL recruiting is concerning. It’s not an outlandish statement.
Roll the pocket left. Roll the pocket right. That’s all we can do. 😛

A walk on starting on the OL is Dooley years stuff. That isn't a standard issue by me. That's a significant roster issue by all but a few of you. Hope we get lucky with the spring or one of these two OL gets convinced.
Hopefully, the coaches see something special in Umarov but just wanted to give him a redshirt year and a year in the S&C program before plugging him in. Hopefully. It’s worth noting that he was recruited by UGA and LSU, so Elarbee isn’t the only respected coach who liked him as a HS recruit. If the recruitments of Umarov and Davis prove to be a valid indicator, it’s only a matter of time before Umarov passes Davis in terms of how well he performs on Saturdays. I’m not convinced that he’ll be ready to perform at the level we need him to in order to make a playoff run this year, but it’s possible.

And that should be an attractive selling point to these top portal lineman, but for whatever reason, it isn't. So recent success isn't an issue. Future promise, isnt either. Money isn't an issue, apparently. Just a weird situation. For some reason, these kids don't want to come here. I know there was a recent negative recruiting angle that our system isn't a good preparation for the NFL, but Darnell Wright should have suppressed that notion.
My theory is opposing coaches point recruta to these forums and tell em to check out the epic levels of overreaction and knee jerk mattress burning behavior.

Dayne Davis looked bad in the Iowa game...so did the rest of the line. Nico was sacked 6x. Iowas defense was highly ranked. But its not like Dayne only played one game ever. Hes had others and did fine.

Folks need to stop overthinking things and chill sometimes. This 24 hour news cycle is driving folks crazy. EVERY offseason with CJH its been the same cycle. Near end if season everyone is freaking because he cant close on recruits. Then he does. Then first round of the portal carousel he isnt closing fast enough on guys that can make a difference..then he does. Then the spring batch same crap he cant fill last needed spots for depth...then he does.

Every season he has been here he brings in recruits and transfers that contribute at a high level to the team. Every offseason you guys forget that.

So...Ole Miss has turned into the New York Yankees. Cool.
No guarantee it will work but kiffin is winning at their highest level ever at ole miss. This portal season is showing how serious they are about investing in winning. I have not remotely thought I’d rather have kiffin over Heupel until now. I wish we could have taken the momentum from last year and plugged holes. We didn’t on the defense and went backwards this year. Now defense is still an issue and we have to throw the offensive line that’s protecting our $8 million man. Next year could be a ton of fun for us or turn into another dumpster fire

You aren’t wrong but it sucks

Brought in Nico, paid him and all we can hope for the guys responsible for protecting him is “well let’s see what happens after spring ball”….big yikes.
Oh, it sucks for sure. I did think we would pull a couple of OL transfers. To swing and miss on all counts relegates us to hoping for at least one solid xfer after spring ball. Not an enviable position at all.

Wait. Are we really looking at walk on OL being a leading candidate as a starter?

How is Ole Miss getting all of these players or at least in the mix? This stuff is crazy. You'd think they were a traditional power. Here is thing though. If you got a bunch of rich, desperate for success boosters and nil is a legal way to buy players then you probably get an Ole Miss.

You guys? That's a rather inclusive blanket you're using, there. My post was fairly innocuous with relation to revealing any personal feelings on our recruiting efforts on the OL. I merely noted how strange it is that we have had trouble filling those spots in the portal so far with so many positive aspects to sell.

the walk on narrative is tired. Dayne Davis has been on full scholarship the last three seasons. It’s the exact same thing as saying “i can’t believe UGA won back to back nattys with a walk on QB”
Did you know Cody Shraeder was a walk on at Mizzou this year?

Huh did you know that?

He was a walk on at Mizzou.

A walk on became the best player on their team.

A walk on.

Record breaking walk on.

At Mizzou.

In the SEC.

He was a walk on.

They’re going all in for next season. They have money and resources but not the amount of traditional powers. They couldn’t replicate this effort year in and year out.

In retrospect, looks like the only guy we had a legitimate shot at was Pounds. ie..LT for Heard and close to home for the other. The stars for these particular two players were not aligned and nothing to do with NIL or coaches.

First, I agree. We also know they have some old money down there. I think there is a certain level of all out desperation in some of these decisions but maybe we can look at them as very serious and look at this as their chance to impact their team.

One last thing, do you happen to know who that poster was telling you to ignore because the person you responded to was me. I don't even know that fool. Is the poster some type of snowflake hall monitor?

LOL. Not sure who it was in reference to in all honesty

Nothing official... But the visit seemed like a6 hour pit stop. And he's apparently dead set on playing LT, we need a RT immediately. He could probably slide to Lt next year here.. But it doesn't seem like that's what he's after.
Not willing to play another position……yea, sounds like the kind of guy I want. Good luck with that at the next level……if he ever makes it.
