You're saying, even if we go we are gonna lose the 1st game. It's called march madness for a reason, Florida Gulf Coast was a 15 seed, and made the sweet 16.
A loss is a loss, some are worse than others, but it never helps to lose to lesser teams, based upon talent alone they were bad losses.
You can quote the Index all that you want but at the end of the year when the season is over, those three loses will play a huge part on where UT is seeded or if they do make it in at all.
I would say lucky. But where will they be THIS year? I would rather build a program that lasts, not one that has a good run and then fades into obscurity.
Your turn to answer my question. What are your realistic expectations if we go to the NCAA?
I love your optimism. I really do, but I just don't share it. Tennessee basketball has disappointed me for far too many years, and I don't see this one being any different. If that makes me a negavol, so be it.

That's a fair point. However, at the point where our program is right now... if.. and this is a big if... Cuonzo were a talented recruiter (and I am not sure whether he is or isn't) he would parlay an NIT win into a better recruiting class (to get this team to the next level). I get what you are saying, but I just think that just going to the NCAA is hollow. You have to go there to win, and we can't do that. Sorry, but we just can't. You gotta start somewhere, and I guess our disagreements lie in where that somewhere might be.
What I find interesting is that the same type of argument used here is falling short wrt football. Many fans would have been ecstatic to go to the Music City Bowl. Really? Why is a third tier bowl acceptable in football, but not in basketball? We have the same talent deficit in hoops vis a vis the rest of the conference/league as we do in football, yet Butch has pulled in a top 5 recruiting class while getting NO bowl game. Maybe Cuonzo is the problem....
Absolutely.
The biggest negative being used against Martin in recruiting is that he's never been to the NCAAT. I can tell you with 100% certainty, Martin would rather go to the tourney and lose first round than win the NIT.
It doesn't make him stupid, it's just his opinion or preference. He is entitled to it the same as you are to yours.
And, before you start in on me, I would much rather make it to the NCAA Tourney rather than the NIT.
I know that opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one and they all stink, but this guy's has got some extra funk waftin off it.
And there are such things as stupid opinions. What if someone was of the opinion that people shouldn't have their car serviced? That's a legitimate opinion, but it's also stupid.
He is just bringing facts. Yeah he comes across as argumentative all the time, but he almost always beings facts to the discussion and really knows his stuff. The board needs more optimist like him and less negative Nancy's it's depressing. Let the season play out and don't make blanket statements that aren't true (like the guy that made a thread saying we wouldn't get in because our RPI was 104, when it's top 60 now) just let the season play out and if we miss the dance them fire CCM.
The board needs both sides.
Hypocrite?Yes it does but it seems like 90% is negative and then there are 10% that are optimist. There will be 100 people on here when we have a bad loss and less than 10 people on here after a 35 point beat down over a top 10 defense. I'm still waiting to see if we will see the same team play or the old team, but I'm going to be optimistic and say that they have changed until I see otherwise.
