LV 2019 Recruiting Thread

🤔 coaching aside (which is hard to even think about). We had the # 1 class and then followed it up with another top 5 class. Then we are in on some of the top players in the 2019 class. So this statement seems off basis especially when you look at 4 all Americans followed up by 3 all Americans. So I’m not thinking recruiting has fallen off that badly. Although she is a 2021 and anything can happen don’t forget we have a commit from one of the top players at 6’3” with Candace Parker type positionless skills already in Amani Bartlett (and she is still growing). You also have Treasure Hunt and 6’6” Kamilla C who are top 10 2020 targets and Kennedy Brown is a 6’6” recruit in 2019 that has TN in her top 7. Rickea Jackson and Jordon Horton both top players also are both in contact with TN. Last but not least the Tamari Key (6’5) and her sister (who is a 6’2” wing/guard) have TN on their list as well. So recruiting seems to be ok for now.

I hope the TN players will become Lady Vols. I remember lamenting the loss of the TN player Crystal Dangerfield. Several on this board called me stupid. Said we didn't need a point guard because Tea Cooper was better than Dangerfield. I didn't reply, and don't call people stupid, but I was thinking it. Any of you who thought Cooper was better than Dangerfield reading this? If so, did you see Dangerfield against SC last night? Still think I'm stupid for thinking she was a better player than Tea Cooper?

I agree with your supposition. However, according to the write up with Saunders. Holly and coaches went on this visit with a scholarship offer in hand!!!! Surely they are aware with the numbers game for 2019 & 2020???? Yet we offer at this stage to this recruit ? I hope their scouting and interest in this player proves to be the right move? 🤔

It might be sometime before Saunders is ready to deal with the Top post players in her class and on the college level. Tamari Key 6-5 her mom said she is 6-6 is still out there not sure if we have made her a offer. ? Now if you want a game changer she is the one.

Ezi is only looking at UCLA and UConn. I agree, I dont think Boston goes to UConn if Ezi does.

The Australian, Ezi Magbegor, is staying home to play professionally.
This gives Boston to UConn, imo.

Truer words have never been spoken! Whatever positives any new recruits bring, Holly will coach it out of them; watch next season as those new hope recruits fail like all the others. Then watch again as certain fans blame the players and place their hopes on 2020's holy grail of recruits! It's always "these new players coming in will get us there, they'll be the missing pieces, blah, blah" It's become a broken, old record at the end of every disappointing season.

I do not know much about Saunders other than what I have read. The three recruits you list have never been on UT’s radar as an interest by them or us. The post that I am aware of are:

Malu Mutombo HG 29 & PN 40
Tamari Key. HG ? & PM 39

These are the ones I have heard about but mainly on this forum . I am learning to take the raters with distrust. I have seen some recruits in person and wonder why? And some not rated and should be!!!

We need some bigs because:
2018 We have London and KK and Harris and Collins
2019 We have Harris , KK and Collins and Saunders.
2020 We have KK senior and Collins Junior and Saunders as Sophomore. Hoping Kamilla Coradosa comes in 2020!!!! Obviously 2019 could use another big because Harris May never help and Saunders may not be ready, which leaves KK and Collins as the only backup!!! the question is who ? We need another wing for 2019 and my vote is Jackson. But Horston , Bell , or Beal could work?

What offense are they recruiting for? If the offense stays the same the definitely need an aggressive big & a true midrange jump shooter as well as a 3 pointer shooter. Everyone else just needs to worrk on their shot, defense, and passing and they are set.

At the end of the day you have to get who wants you. In the past we've waited for others to want us only for them to land else (Jade Williams-Duke, Michaela O-UCLA, DeCosta-Baylor, Williams and ONO-UConn)

The fact that Saunders is commiting this early with the AAU season just now beginning and another year of high school to impress is what I like. I have seen both Key and Saunders play and I like both of them, is she as dominant as Key offensively "No" but she has time to develop that which is her plan this summer. On the defensive end and as a rebounder she's exceptional and I'll take that.

She isn't afraid to contest or change a shot or put someone on their ass when they come into her house, something we've missed since Izzy left.

Rankings are worthless as it is all perception based and who I see and what I judge and rank players on may not be the same criteria you use as an evaluation tool.

I agree with KK and Collins will not be enough on the low block. I`m with you on Saunders i don`t know much about her. The thing that worries me after this 2018 class. Holly coaching style might be a turn off to someone of the top recruits ?. As for the wing i like Bell.

I don't have a crystal ball but i will go on record now that Harris will never help us in any offense. Seems to be a great kid and teammate but just not there!JMHO:loco:

No. You’re not stupid. Dangerfield is a HOOPER! Some on the Summitt think Annie is better than Cooper and Dangerfield or will be eventually be better than Dangerfield. They’re the ones who are stupid. One even said Dangerfield couldn’t shoot her freshman year and used that to compare her to Annie. :birgits_giggle: Not even close. Dangerfield shot almost 32% from three as a freshman. While that’s not blistering, it’s decent and a helluva lot better than 21%. She’s shooting 45% from three this year. She’s awesome and I wish we had her.

That being said, the exodus of in-state players who get away in exchange for less talented out-of-state players is about to get worse. You’ll see...remember this post. :ermm:
