LV 2019 Recruiting Thread

Are people excusing the poor player development on inaccurate rankings? I mean, it's one thing if #78 Kortney Dunbar ends up not being that good, but Russell was ranked #1 by most recruiting services. There was little doubt that she was a very elite player. I'd say that the top 10 player rankings are spot on. There might be your Nina Davis or Alexis Peterson that ends up coming out of nowhere, but it's rare for a top 5 player to not pan out with hardware.

What type of hardware?

Trophies. Awards.

Wow. You guys have found another reason to punish...and this is undoubtedly a double whammy because it reflects on both players and coaches.

Trophies & Awards have been received. Though I assume you only mean Natty's or POY (subjective).

This is a team sport, so one player #1 or not can rarely bring a natty all alone. Look at Baylor with only one trophy with Griner - most dominant player of a generation. They also got Cox 2 years ago. Zilch trophies or awards. FAHR KIM!

A'ja is interesting because they did sort of back into a Natty (thanks to MSST & top 10 transfers), but she did manage to stay dominant enough to be POY.

UCONN has the #1 or top player at their position almost every year.

I just don't think that no natty for one player is not really an indictment. However, I do wish Russell had better success. She's a terrific player and young woman.

But that should ALWAYS be our goal....not "we made the field"....

Agreed. And it is our goal. They say it every year.

But a goal is the epitome of achievement, not the firing line.

Many programs have a goal of winning a championship - even just those with a realistic chance - and there can be only one. That sure would be a lot of dissatisfaction & firing.

Maybe I’m late, but just saw where an Emily Saunders committed for 2019? Had not heard of her, anyone have any info? All I can find is that she is 6’4”. I was hoping we would get some of the higher ranked players for the post position.

Saunders is a left-handed post player with a number of tools. Her length at 6-4 immediately make her an impact player, because she can affect the game on both ends of the floor. However, her game is much more than just being tall. She showed range on her jumper while also having ball handling skills in space. Saunders still has strength to add to her frame as well a capacity to affect the game both inside and out. However, all signs point to a bright future coming out of the Elite Basketball Academy camp this June.

Does anyone know anything about Akira Levy and her scholarship offers?

I have watched her for the last three years in the state tournament. She is one of my favorite players. However with the guards we have.... Annie and Evina....And the guards for 2018.... Zay and Jaz..She is not a need and with two more Hayes sisters coming in 19 and 20..... It just doesn’t make sense!!! JMO

But love her game !

Why didn't she want to come? Or was she already fixed on uconn because that girl is a dog

Does anyone know what an 18 year old is thinking?

My opinion...... Should I go to UT and play for a storied program built by Pat Summitt that now is coached by her assistant that hasn’t won a national championship in how many years ????

Or go and play for a coach that has won how many championships!!! It is almost like asking a kid if they want to play football at Alabama! DUH ... I will go play where they WIN! And play with the best players! Yep. Sign me up...... end of story.

Um, except she had Vandy, Ole Miss, LSU, Maryland (but not TN) in her finalists. Obviously, not winning championships was not an issue and neither was quality of coaching.

I don't blame her for going to UCONN, if sitting on the bench for 2 years for an egotistical cheater is a good trade off for winning...because they do win...even though many of the wins are against good high school teams.

I just think it's sad how many TN "fans" would use this as yet another way to put down our program.

Nope. We haven't won a national championship under Holly's 6 years. That doesn't make us a scrub.

How many schools have won in those six years? 3. 3 schools out of 349 Div 1 programs.

I was not aware of schools of choice . I was poking fun at teenagers and making my assumptions of her choices! She was from Arkansas so Ole Miss and LSU makes local sense. Vandy is not easy to get in (academic) and Maryland...who knows what That coach offered! I know we were on her from early on and I thought we had a shot in the beginning but when Uconn gets in the picture.... they usually get who they want! Collier changed her mind but stayed in Texas for family ???

I was not putting UT down, but making lite of any player that has a choice of Uconn or _____(incert school name ) All athletes want to play with good athletes. This is why your AAU teams are loaded with good players. And in some instances why they sign to play at the same colleges. We just had the Macdonalds AA games and I would suggest that all of the players knew about each other’s rankings and who was going to what school. We had three lady Vols in this game and only Baylor had more than UT. Last year it was four... That’s bragging rights there! Let’s see where we go from here?

I was thinking the thread was about Dangerfield from TN. Looks like you meant Williams from Ark. Sorry if I messed that up.

Laughing my $#% off at this post. Don't attack Warlick but attack the coach that has and is still winning championshipS.
Check Uconn record against top notch teams.Youre putting down their program
who's winning year in and year out but
judging us'fans' for wanting to have the same. Six year drought. We play like high schoolers, but scrubs is more appropriate (Don't want to bad mouth high schoolers).
'Two men enter and one man leave ' Mad Max /Thunderdome. We have been neither. Not even one out of three out of 349. I miss the good ole days when we was the one and number one.
SIGH

Not impressed with Amira Collins , her Basketball IQ is about the same as KK . Our post will be in danger next year .

As someone who has watched her play multiple times personally your assessment is way off. She will need to learn the college game but her basketball IQ is good. She also will be good in the pick and roll situation. She needs to become a better passer but she can hit the pick and pop...

So I’m glad you’re not impressed because you’re going to be pleasantly surprised! Have a good one 😎
