Mack Brown out at Texas

According to Chip Brown, Texas will make heavy pushes for Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and Mike Tomlin. Dream big, Texas.

I live in Texas and their fans say that Chip Brown is as connected as anybody in the media about little ut.

He's the same guy who reported that Texas was teaming up with Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State to leave the Big XII and form the Pac-16 with the Pac-12 schools.

Also thought that Texas would join the ACC as well, and reported the two aforementioned rumors within 3 days of each other.

I'd just like to say,

The similarities between this circumstance and the Grumors are astoundingly similar.

1 - Big Money
2 - Local TV sports anchor "in the know"
3 - Local reputable sports writer with inside info
4 - Set dates from "Sources" on when events (resigning, firing, hiring) will happen

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Charlie Strong ends up the coach for about $4 million.

It has so many similarities to the Grumor ordeal last year. I still think there's at least a slim chance of Saban going there. I mean if there was the possibility that the $10 mil for 10 years deal was true, Saban would be a fool not to take it.

Bama's been negotiating with Sexton for about 10 days. The contract was put on his desk yesterday. Saban returns from a recruiting trip at the end of the week.

Finebaum's reporting it was on his desk Friday. Doesn't make much of a difference but just pointing out what's being said.

Herbstreit just said on ESPN he thinks Brown is stepping down. Saban would really surprise him, but thinks names like Mora or even Harbaugh could be thrown around with numbers in the $6.5-7 Mil range. Flat out said it was only his opinion, with absolutely no inside information.

Nice to hear somebody say it was only speculation instead of making claims with no real basis in fact.

So he thinks landing either one of the Harbaughs is more realistic than Saban?

Once they iron out the details of Mack's role within the University after the expected resignation, I'm certain that the BOR and President will conduct a lengthy, well publicized National search. I'm also certain that they already have candidate(s) in mind and have probably already began contract negotiations with atleast 2 of them.

Regardless of recent re-negotiations with some coaches across the country at their respective schools, I dont believe for one second that the BOR in Austin are hesitant to ask a few of them to consider the position.

Current NFL coaches being mentioned appear to be the brass in Austin attempting to flex their muscle publically for pomp and circumstance.

Names like Jim Tressel, Art Briles, Charlie Strong, James Franklin and yes, Nick Saban (you have to call him atleast) are viable IMO.

Mike Shanahan will be canned soon and then his name will pop up I'd imagine.

I've heard Larry Fedora's name brought up too which I think would infuriate the fan base.

A very dark horse that I keep thinking about, should he still have the passion for the game would be, Bill Cowher.

And just for grins, I'd be remiss if I didnt type the name Jon Gruden. <--This was done for entertainment purposes only fellas.
