Shaggybevo rumor: the assistants he reached out to are Finkel from osu, and chad Morris.
This seems even more unrealistic know.
Regarding Smart: yes, I think he'd get the job. And I think most Bama fans would be okay with it. While it's not official, it's been widely accepted that he's been the coach in waiting for a couple of years. He's had opportunities to leave, but he's stayed on (being the highest paid coordinator in the country helps). The only way he's leaving Bama is if some school like UGA comes calling.
As for the rest, we have to hear stuff about Saban leaving every year. Shoot, I think rumors of Saban's departure began as soon as he took the job. While there may be "more smoke" this time, it's not like it's something entirely new. If he stays, and Texas hires someone else, it will simply be some other college or NFL team next year.
Ok that's what I thought on Smart. I'm going to assume that u mean he'd leave for a school like UGA if they were to come calling while still the DC, not if he were the HC...yes?
Now on the second part...I know there is always talk of him leaving but other than the NFL there really isn't a reason to worry much in the past. He's to expensive for majority of schools even if he'd be worth it. Now UTX on the other hand is a legit threat...maybe one of very few actual ones. If browns "resignation" gets put off another season this smoke will just get thicker and then a nuisance. Start to be a negative not something to just brush off as just "happens every yr". Now if y'all would be ok with Smart, and not really go nuts ie Kiffin fiasco then no biggie. So now I'm wondering if u think y'all would really be THAT distraught if he were to leave this year or next??

Yeah, that's what I meant.
If Saban were to leave for any reason other than retirment, there will be plenty of wailing and herbicidal behavior. Most Bama fans like Smart, but I'm not even going to pretend that anyone would just shrug it off if Saban bolted.
To your hypothetical about Brown: he's gone. There is no way he can or will be retained for another year. That bridge has already been burned, and the ashes have been scattered. Texas will be making a new hire within the next few weeks, whoever that may be.
He was an investor in a couple of bad land deals. But at 5.5 million a year, I don't think "financial trouble" is the term I would use.
It's a rumor that's been out there ever since this "Saban to Texas" thing got started.
Supposedly, he owes $7 million to various creditors. Bad investments, that type of stuff.
Don't believe it for a second, but it's one of the many rumors floating around.
I don't understand why people invest like their money like that anyway. You're already a multimilionaire with more money than you could ever spend! Why not just bank it and live off the interest??
