I think Don will stay at SC&P in New York. Could Duck have been bringing in someone to replace Pete Campbell since it looks like Pete was fired? It was never really clear.
Speaking of Pete. I was a little confused by the episode 2 weeks ago when Pete confronted Bob Benson about his bogus identity and his shady past. He said that "he knows what Bob is" and basically apologized for anything he'd said that might have made Bob mad and said he wouldn't expose Bob, but Pete wants to be off limits.
Did he mean he knows Bob is some kind of super con artist and doesn't want to mess with him for fear of his career?
I think he was threatening Bob and saying that he knows what he is and knows about his past, but he won't tell anyone if Bob stays out of his way. At that point Pete was already being phased out at the SC&P. The writing was on the wall. And he tried to pull this on Don in the first or second season and it totally backfired on him. So I think in an effort to not rock the boat and look like a petulant child (which he kind of is), he tried to intimidate Bob into staying off his turf.
He realized that Bob had more allies at SC&P than he did at that time. He was already on thin ice, so he tried to diffuse the situation. It didn't really work and the whole situation with his mom and Bob's "friend" didn't really improve their relationship. So to finally put the dagger firmly in Pete's back, Bob pulled the slick move on him at GM, getting him to drive the stick shift Camaro, leaving the GM account all to himself.
Bob is an interesting character. If you'll recall Sal from the first few seasons. Sal was gay and didn't do a very good job of hiding it and it cost him. Bob on the other hand, plays everything so close to the vest, that other people have no idea. He's so harmless and bland that nobody notices him. And yet, he's now the sole account guy on the agency's biggest account. In a way, he's kind of like Don in that he came out of nowhere with no qualifications, only to end up being an indispensable asset to the agency. I'm very intrigued to see where Bob ends up next season.
