Maggitt To Redshirt?

Maggit was indeed hurt late last year and an ACL injury can take as long as 1year to completely rehab. Rushing him back too soon will be a mistake both for Maggit and the Vols. Now, whether Maggitt was considered an average SEC LB is hard to answer, not many defensive players were even considered average on UT's worst defense in history. 2013 is a new year and hopefully our defense will be at least be considered average by SEC standards, we'll know very soon.

the possibility of a rs was always there and still is. I don't care who you are, guaranteeing he won't be redshirted is about the same as all the other guarantees on here. They mean nothing.

I didn't say I heard the interview..I read it from a reliable poster on TOS who heard it

So you repeated a negative and edited interpretation of what a radio commentator said while expressing an opinion about what should be done about some injured players without having any direct knowledge of how their medical treatment is progressing?

Nice job.:good!:

Sapp and Brewer have both been playing very, very well. There is no guarantee that Maggitt was going to just step in and take back over at either spot.

No guarantee, but Sapp or Brewer simply don't have the wheels or pop that Maggit licks when he's healthy. That damn turf toe he had last season really hampered him.

However, when stud freshmen play you expect both flashes of brilliance and incompetence. With Maggitt we only got the latter. I'm not saying he sucks. I'm merely saying that aside form the depth issue, his loss is not that big of a deal.

Not true. He was 3rd on the team in tackles behind Austin Johnson and AJ. He was 4th on the team in tackles for loss behind Malik, J Smith, and Couch. DL's should have a bit of an advantage there.

He avg'd 2 tackles per game more against the SEC than the OOC. He had more tackles than his season avg against UF, Bama, LSU, Ark, Vandy, and UK.

He also played in the open scrimmage without a contact jersey.

He didn't play in last night's scrimmage and no one wore a green jersey last night..Maggitt was back in a green jersey today
Injury Notes: Pig Howard and Brian Randolph were new additions to the list of green ‘limited’ jerseys. Curt Maggitt was back in green, as was Justin King, after no green jerseys were seen during Saturday night’s open practice at Neyland Stadium.

Ramey's open practice notes
Paul Harris (ankle), Curt Maggitt (knee) and Marlin Lane were held out of practice, though no green jerseys were seen on the night.

Not sure about Sapp... but Brewer is faster than Maggitt.

well, crap I was going by twitter findings...

And that's what they're paid to do - give their opinions.

The disconnect comes when people aren't bright enough to tell the difference between news and opinion. And sports isn't the only area where that happens.

not at all agree it is call ratings and advertising dollars at the expense of the fans....Fans will love the controversy no matter what and continue to listen so they can stuff it down his throat or think he knows something.....

What kind of knee problem/surgery did he have? I didn't even know he had a knee issue until reason--thought it was just the toe last year.

I look at Curt Maggitt and see a lot of the Bob Sanders or Troy Polamalu type. He's a beast to be reckoned with, when he's on the field. Both of those guys have had issues with their health, especially Sanders who ended up having to retire way too early because his body had betrayed him.

If Maggitt is healthy and ready to rock, I say use him. If I were Coach Jones I wouldn't play him until the Oregon game, just as a precaution. In all honesty we won't need him until that game and the ones after anyway.

I can agree with this. Some guys suffer with turf toe for a long time. The ACL certainly did him no favors except maybe to finally cure the turf toe. Maggit admittedly is not your fastest LB in the SEC but the turf toe hampered his speed greatly IMO.

I am starting to believe we r cursed on defence starting to pick up quite a few injures I hope this don't happen a lot in the season that's all we need

hes a great player. if he's not able to go its a big loss to a group lacking depth to begin with. this is where dools loosing peters and santos hurts. hopefully christian harris and bynum will be ready to go.
