Fulmer did the same thing, If I remember correctly Tee Martin played 2 or 4 snaps Peyton's senior year, that used to frustrate me as well.I was reading an article earlier today where Heupel admitted that having Nico on the roster makes it hard to get an experienced quality QB in the portal. Heupel also admitted that lack of qb experience is a concern. My question to Heupel would be why haven't you given either of your backups meaningful playing time? What's especially perplexing to me is how Gaston Moore followed him over from UCF and knows the offense and he hasn't gotten any snaps really. I'm going to be really mad if I don't see Nico or Gaston throwing passes to starting receivers in the bowl.

There is a relationship between experience and efficiency. Or we can just ignore that and draw straws to see who plays.
They were both playing behind 2 of the best quarterbacks their schools have produced.Carson Beck had limited playing time last year - He did just fine for UGA.
Jalen Milroe had limited playing time last year - He did just fine for Bama.
If Nico is capable as what folks think he is, he will be just fine.

Fans gonna fan lol. What I took from this thread is several people know little to nothing about football and are going to be mad.
Stop that! Just stop it! This thread was going and growing and YOU had to get truthful on us! SMH ….Now… got to drag myself out of bed WITH THE FLU and act like giraffes really aren’t selfish…just running around looking out for #1.Carson Beck had limited playing time last year - He did just fine for UGA.

Oh please - Joe was the experienced QB. He was winning games and keeping us in others. You don't bench a QB just because fans want to see the backup when he is leading the team just fine. They were both playing behind 2 of the best quarterbacks their schools have produced.
Nico was not. No reason not to play him and be better prepared for next season. Watching 7 was tough knowing CJH was not going to pull him. Ever.
The key is that the PRACTICES are invaluable. The game is meaningless. It’s Joe’s team, let him play if he wants to.I was reading an article earlier today where Heupel admitted that having Nico on the roster makes it hard to get an experienced quality QB in the portal. I trust JH here. We don't know what's behind the scenes. For all we know, Nico + family may have wanted the RS season, knowing pencil thin QB's can get broken in the SEC gauntlet. Though I'd have liked to see Nico have more action, in theory, he's only going to get 3 years in Vol uniform, so may as well max out on those three years. Sometimes you get shell shocked as a frosh if the situation's not right...Happened this year also.
Fact is not getting Nico meaningful snaps this year has the potential to hurt us next year.
NC State won't be easy, but the schedule in '24 definitely sets up for about the most gentle start an SEC team could ask for while breaking in a new QB. And when the schedule does ramp up, Oklahoma in week 4 tends to give up yards and points.Just an old cliche
Nico will have bowl game, spring game, fall, and a few cupcakes to start the season.
Plenty of experience leading up to meaningful games in SEC.
OL, DL, and RBs kept us in games. Not JM. Better QB play could have been the difference in games also.Oh please - Joe was the experienced QB. He was winning games and keeping us in others. You don't bench a QB just because fans want to see the backup when he is leading the team just fine.
Nico would have played more if the season allowed but the way the games played out, there was not that much opportunity to give him playing time.
And while some of you seem to be 'okay' with throwing the season away just so NICO could play, had that happened and we really tanked - like not make a bowl or lose 6 games you all would be asking why he didn't start Milton and calling for the coach to be fired.
Let the coach coach the team.
Getting people playing time does not make them quality. He means a veteran QB that knows the system and has had some game time. His point is that QB's in portal want to start they see Nico they dont see a path to starting outside of injury. We played QB's every time we had a chance which wasn't much this season because we were trying to win.I was reading an article earlier today where Heupel admitted that having Nico on the roster makes it hard to get an experienced quality QB in the portal.
