Malik Jackson to transfer to UT

usc.rivals -
Junior defensive end Malik Jackson became the second USC player to take advantage of NCAA transfer bylaws following sanctions imposed on the Trojans. Jackson confirmed to USCFootball.com that he was transferring to the Tennessee Volunteers

Jackson discussed his transfer with the USC coaching staff, including head coach Lane Kiffin, position coach Ed Orgeron and defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.

"They weren't too happy about it," Jackson said. "Coach Kiffin said if I want to leave, I can leave. Coach (Monte) Kiffin said it's a bad decision but we'll only know if I make it."

Hey Monte:

VOLS, *****

“Coach Orgeron wasn’t too happy at all,” Jackson said. “Both Coach Kiffins told me to do what I thought was best for me, but to make sure I was making the right decision.”

Well I haven't said it yet, but I gladly eat some crow for saying we don't get a USC transfer. Welcome Malik.

I think many of us were doubtful. However, Malik in the very least can be a symbolic representation of the two respective programs. UT gaining strength, USC, losing steam. I hope this trend continues. VB.

I think the USC staff just knows that with this move they are getting weaker and UT stronger. Even if its just a small amount, its a trend the USC staff would like to avoid. I hope Seantrel goes to Miami just to spite Kiffin and Co.

Awesome news. Can't wait to give the guy a high five at the Vol Walk.

I'd love it if we could get Seantrel! Oh well, that's not going to happen.

If John Brown qualifies we could def play the 3-4. Hughes and Brown can rotate

Walls is a perfect DE and Jackson and Martin fit that role to. Big and rangy. Walker off the edge and Johnson and Reveiz inside with either Thompson or King on the outside. It gives us a lot of flexibility. (Something we had none of on our front 7 last year)

Does anyone else think we could run the 3-4? I think if Walls isn't pulling his weight it could possibly become our base. Think about it, we are sitting pretty at DE but the staff still decided to put in the work on a DE all the way across the country in CA. Granted, a lot of it was probably payback and I am loving every minute of it. However, with the addition of Jackson we really do have the tools for a 3-4 now. Not 100% but enough. We do need more than Hughes as the NT but we do have him. Walker and Williams off the edge rotating in Bohannon. Walls, Jackson, and Martin as hybrids with Reveiz, Thompson, Frazier, Lathers and Johnson all rotating in at LB. Our DB's are set. I'm not saying this is a gurantee b/c it does take work to put in a 3-4 but Wilcox has stated we will be multiple and the way he runs his defense it would not surprise me to see it quite a bit. Plus our depth at DT is scaring the crap outta me tbh. Idk just a thought.

This is great news, this doesn't *destroy* USC in any shape, fashion, or form. But it does taste a little sweet, I must admit. And Jackson will end up being an integral part of our defensive line rotation immediately.

However, before we end up tossing grenades at the USC messageboards for them bashing this kid when he wants to transfer, browse through the Bryce Brown thread first, please.
