That police officer was ridiculous. Im surprised that Moats didnt deck the cop. My favorite line by the cop was "I could screw you over...but id rather not." wow.

The man should be facing manslaughter charges. The most important quality of a police officer is good judgement. he displayed none.

You ever thought how bad things were before the age of video tape? These guys used to get away with everything.

Manslaughter.......really??? This cop should be totally stripped of his badge along with some sort of other punishment, but manslaughter is a reach

The mother-in-law died.

The officer had nothing to do with her death. Trying to persecute him for that is completely asinine. I'm not condoning what he did at all. He's acted reprehensibly, but he did not cause her death in the least.

He did cause significant mental anguish to the family though.

You might see things differently if you were having a heart attack, and a cop held you up from getting medical attention until your insurance was checked.

Clearly I am in the minority here, but I am fine with that.

Disgusting display of lack of judgement and just plain human compassion.

I think he went far beyond "lack of judgment" and "lack of human compassion".

It was a total abuse of power. He was threatening Moats with what he could do... that is always very unsettling coming from a Public Servant. He was aggressively belligerent.

Reminds me of that NYPD cop that went way out of his way to clothesline a bicyclist and then tried to falsify reports in his own defense. Cops who forget they're there to serve the public are contemptible.

You're confused. The mother-in-law was in the hospital already on her deathbed.

The cop kept the family from seeing her off. The mother-in-law wasn't in the car.

Oh, I was under the impression that they were transporting the mother in law. My mistake, then. yes, manslaughter wouldn't be appropriate.

What makes this story even harder to stomach is that it was near the hospital. An area that often would see its fair share of cars blowing by red lights as people rush to the hospital.

I have no problem saying the politically incorrect here...it was Texas. Are we surprised? Racial profiling at it's finest...

I believe the cop was black as well. I have no respect for the idiot and he should have ALREADY been fired but Illinois and every other state are just as guilty of the racial profiling thing.

He was a white guy. Young guy right out of the police academy and who went by the book regardless of the circumstances.

Gives us a bad name. And for the record there were no video's when I started and I've never witnessed a d bag like this in 20 years. (in person) I know they exist, but they are not the norm, otherwise you'd see thousands of these vids a day.

My Dad and I were just talking about that. Police have a very tough job, but there's no telling what would have happened if the tape wasn't rolling.

You bet, we are all evil and self serving!

I was wondering how many post there would be before someone brought up race.

Listen, the cop is obviously an ahole but how in the hell is it racial profiling? He did run the light, when that happened the cop had no idea who was driving.

Once the SUV pulled in the hospital and it was established the story was legit the cop should have let them go in the hospital and deal with any legal issues after the fact.

Racial profiling? I don't think so.

So....you think if that was you that was pulled over that he would make you wait as he not only writes a ticket, but takes 10 minutes to do so????

i've gotten pulled over many a time only to get lectured by the cop for 10 minutes saying things of the variety "do you think you are better than everyone else?" and i'm as waspy as wasp comes. some cops are just douchebags and got into the business to help their frail ego with powertrips. some cops also like to pull over white boys in fancy cars.
