Bill if it's any consequence I experienced an injustice at the hands of a Metro officer at 16. This is what caused me to become one. I still know his name to this day and that was 24 years ago. But, I do owe a debt of gratitude to this officer who thought I needed an ass whipping and a trip to juvie. As it turns out I got into a scuffle with his girlfriend's son and he didn't like it (learned this many years later). I will admit that as much as I didn't deserve that ass whipping, I learned from it.
I've worked with thousands of law enforcement officers in Local, State, and Federal capacities and I assure you what we've experienced is NOT the norm. However, from experience, I know and I explain to other officers, that one negative experience can, and usually does, create a negative view of this profession. Before you get all misty eyed this isn't going to be a reparations moment where I apologize for all the misdeeds by the police, because I like most officers, are not responsible for said misdeeds completed by others. But, when I see that an officer made a Mistake, I can empathize.
