Man of Steel

Going to check this out tomorrow but I thought I would checkout and see why critics on Rotten Tomatoes are giving it a bad rating and the best I can tell is in there opinion its not enough like the original Superman movie.

One critic basically says where is a the campy fun & romance?

My reply would be to buy a Superman comic. The Superman in the comics today is not the Superman in the comics from the 70's that the Superman: The movie was based from.

Best first superhero movie I've seen I think. It's not Spiderman 2 or Dark Knight good, but it's better than their first movies.

When he did what he did to Zod at the end I actually yelled (was in a drive in) because that is so NOT superman, but then I realized "They can set this up for the next movie to be WHY he has that moral code to begin with."

Superman was played well, Lois was played fairly well (not sure I like her knowing who he is already, but meh, small details). I'm not sure I liked the logic of the Krytponians barely being exposed to the yellow sun but still having powers (Clark should've at least been much stronger than them for longer exposure, or not weakened inside the ship, Figured they were going to do the whole "krypon = kryptonite" explanation there really.)

I'm hoping Darkseid is in the next one. I would kill a small ethnic child for a real life World of Cardboard speech, and it would fit perfectly because he could compare it to this fight in this movie and say "I didn't know my own strength then, I wasn't sure of myself, blah blah blah. But you can take it, can't ya big guy."

Id say its an 8.5/10 or so easily.

Just got back, and it was amazing. Micheal Shannon as Zod was mesmerizing. Crowe and Cavill were both fantastic. Easily the best Superman movie I have seen, and top 5 comic book movie of all time. I can't wait for a sequel.

Man of Steel - 9/10

Wow, It exceeded my expectations! I had some reservations going in after seeing a few reviews and I have to say what are these critics smoking?

I gave a more in depth review in the Movies you've seen recently thread.

I actually didn't have a problem with it. Zod left him no choice and he was visibly upset that he did it.

It really didn't bother me as that is the route they went in Smallville plus it shows how good of a reporter Lois is by tracking him down.

I'm hoping Darkseid is in the next one.[/QUOTE] Never really been a fan of Darkseid although that could possible lead into a Justice League movie if he was to bring Apokolips to earth. I have always wanted to see a live action take on Doomsday and the Death of Superman storyline.

Great Krypton not only has Superman been resurrected with Man of Steel, it has the Number one Spot with 125.1 million dollars, and has produced the supreme or best record for opening in June of all time.

Did critics just want to complain?
A criticism so little action in Superman Returns, way more action In Man of Steel but then the critics complain of to much action.

Are critics unable to accept it's suppose to be a different Superman, and just want to live in past.
I would suspect yes, or maybe majority of critics bitter that the unimpressive Superman Returns movie that didn't come even close to producing justice for Superman but they still gave favorable reviews didn't get a sequel.

Oh well you can't please everyone, and excellent that it produced the Number One Spot at the Box Office, and the Supreme Record for opening in June.

It's early but still my prediction of this being the best Superman movie of all ones on the big screen is looking excellent.

I just got back from seeing it. It was amazing. Better than Batman Begins and Dark Knight Rises IMO...I wasn't really a big fan of DKR.

I don't understand the poor rating. Just goes to show you can't always trust Rotten Tomatoes.

Has Rotten Tomatoes consistently proven to be a reliable website for the quality of movies?

Not a bad movie, but I'm not seeing all the love that it's getting here. Nothing really stood out as exceptional, just a good job all around. Perhaps I was expecting too much mild-mannered reporter, and was thrown by the Wolverine/Batman type behaviors, so there's a chance a second viewing would do better.

Small question? When was the last time you have picked up a Superman comic or seen a version of the Superman character?

Picked up a comic probably 10-12 years ago and watched Smallville and some of the Justice League cartoon movies on Netflix. I get that he's written differently now, but it just doesn't click with me for whatever reason.

It's kind of like the Daniel Craig Bond movies for me. Quality wise, they are far superior to any of the previous ones, but it's just not "Bond" to me. The more I watch them, the more I enjoy them, and I have a feeling Man of Steel will be the same way.

6/10

It was better than the last Superman movie and had the potential to be one of the best superhero movies of all time but about 45 minutes in my 6 year old son and both his sisters were yawning and bored just like me.

When an action movie is one action scene after another after another with very little character development it gets tiresome.

I love all the 9's on here but the fact is the relationship between him and Lane evolves out of nothing--thin air is deeper. He suddenly likes her but why? They barely have 30 lines of dialogue between them during the whole movie. I believe he speaks with his earth Dad in the flashback scenes more. That need to sink in for the people giving it a 9 because they are flash back scenes and not the bulk of the movie.

Zod was the only one that appeared to have a real reason for his emotions and actions.

Or perhaps we just have a different opinion than you. I don't need some long drawn out dialogue between the 2 for them to have feelings.

Man of Steel Domestically made $116,619,362 on opening weekend.

Its Domestic Total as of Jun. 17, 2013
$141,266,491

Read a review today on a comic site that gave it a 3/10. Said it lacked "focus, a lack of humanity and a lack of warmth..." Also said the action, while dazzling, gets very repetitive.

Review: MAN OF STEEL: 'Ambitious' But 'Lacking' | Newsarama.com

I want to see it, but at the same time the negative things I've read are exactly the things I feared about it from the beginning.

I think the negative reviews of full of crap personally. And I had low expectations.

I agree, I don't get where they are coming from I have collected Superman comics pretty much since the early 90's and I this movie in my opinion better describes the Superman I'm familiar with than the old Superman film.

Not sure what they mean by a lack of humanity & warmth?

I saw where some said there is not enough comedy. I thought there was several funny moments that made me chuckle. Since when is Superman a comedian? He isn't Batman but he isn't a comedian I don't want to hear Superman give the lesson of "Flying is still the safest way to travel" etc... When was the last time a Superman comic had him saving a kitten from a tree or helping someone across the street?

I know some talked about the action (something that was lacking in Superman Returns other than plane scene) but this is several super powered beings in a knock down drag out fight this is finally a 10 to 12 page comic book fight scene brought to life! what did they expect? Superman to trick them into giving up there powers in some chamber machine? :whistling:

Some have talked about the destruction of Metropolis during the fight scenes. Have they read a comic or looked at several of the recent direct-to-DVD releases such as Superman/Doomsday or one that was released several weeks ago Superman:Unbound in both films the city is practically destroyed during the fight scenes I didn't hear anyone complaining that most of New York was destroyed during Avengers?

If go into this film thinking the Christopher Reeve Superman is the epitome of what Superman should be and have never read a Superman comic in the last 20 years or wasn't a fan of the series Smallville then chances are you want like this film.

Any attempts at humor in this movie fell completely flat. I especially thought the dialogue between Superman and Lois was pretty terrible. They really seemed to force their relationship too much/quickly for me. They barely talked and then they're going to kiss while standing on top of the ashes of a destroyed Metropolis. Who knows how many people besides Zod died in the battle too? Kiss just felt way too forced for me, save it for the sequel.

Thought it was pretty solid though. You can't really go off of critics when it comes to superhero flicks, too many inconsistencies. This crapped all over Iron Man 3 in my personal opinion and there's no real reason this should've had reviewed worse than Superman Returns.

Interested to see what they do in the sequel, especially villain-wise. Just get someone on board that can write people that talk like actual people. Sequel should be alot better now that they got all of the origin stuff out of the way.

I've never read comic books nor have I seen Smallville. I'm not really a superhero movie guy. I didn't care for the Avengers or the latest Batman movies.

With that being said, I thought Man of Steel was very good. It lived up to the hype.

I saw Man of Steel Friday night. I've been a huge Superman fan for years, but not so much of the comics but of the character himself. There were a lot of differences in the movie and what I know as the original story so if I was a diehard fan boy and went into the movie hoping for the original storyline I would have been greatly disappointed. Although I was surprised at all the things that were different, IMO it didn't take away from the story (and even added to it in places) and I was ok with the changes. Being such a big fan and going into the movie with high hopes, I think it could have been better but it was still good. I give it a 8/10.

I've seen this movie twice, and I'll be seeing more than 5 times in multiple different theaters.
It may be the movie I see the most in 2013.

Were they using Chicago as Metropolis in this movie?

I think so along with another I can't remember. Nolan used Chicago and Pittsburgh in his Dark Knight Trilogy!

Good movie. Nothing spectacular. I can see where people get that the action scenes are repetitive. For the most part its people going through walls.

Cavill makes a great superman. Amy Adams could have been replaced with anyone though. Bland.

Overall 8/10.
