Man the SEC Sucks

All the drama after losing to SC. Finishing out of the top 19 would not be “horrendous” and our coaches would speak about the progress shown this year, not “same ole Tennessee”.

It's not our coaches I am talking about. Hate to break it to you, but most of our big time targets have multiple suitors-in many cases Bama, UGA, etc

Don't give them a talking point.

Call it drama, call it wisdom, call it what you wish. Now in terms of the SC game-would you rather go to the CFP or play in the Orange Bowl that will mostly be watched by Vol and Clemson fans along with the Vegas crowd? I'm just saying, make no mistake Bama and UGA are our targets right now. What's the last time they got absolutely embarrassed by a pretty bad team? Years? Decades?

Your rebuttal said that implied that if it didn't have an impact on us winning a championship then you don't care about the game. Well it's been almost two decades since we played a game in November that impacted any chance of us playing in any sort of a championship. Why care about a Vandy game, using your argument, when we have only won 5-6 games prior?

You know exactly what I mean. I was speaking specifically about meaningless bowl games. I thought that would have been clear. I'm not arguing about this foolishness.

Heh heh heh. Yeah, I know which coaches you meant. It doesn’t matter though, other coaches will have a talking point about something else if not that. If a kid doesn’t come simply because of a bowl game loss or even the loss to SC then they likely weren’t coming anyway. Something else would cause the same result. You do realize that rebuilds take some time right? Did you really expect 10-2 with wins over Bama, Florida, LSU and Pitt this year? Even if we end up 10-3 I’m pretty sure everyone knows Hooker is out. No matter what happens it has been a very good year.

I don’t think I’d make a judgment about the conference as a whole based on the performance of the 2 worst bowl-eligible SEC teams.

I thought Missouri could win this game against Wake because Wake's defense is terrible but Missouri's best weapon hit the transfer portal.

Florida probably never had a chance once Richardson declared.

Wake clearly collapsed down the stretch, but were playing well up to the Louisville debacle.

Oregon State was disrespected with that bowl matchup.

I understand your opinion about bowl games being exhibitions, but I really hate that people keep saying it that way. It reminds me of when Hillary Clinton made reference to primary elections by saying there are no rules, merely traditions. These reflect on our program historically, and many people like myself enjoy the meaning of these games.
Outside the playoffs, bowl games are basically meaningless for P5 teams.

Ehh, I'll still watch.

Weird. All those players sitting out of the bowl game seem to think different.

Don't see any sitting out of the Playoff...
They can think different, you can think different. I like the bowl games, and I want to win them. A lot of people agree with me.

I think you're confused.

Of course a fan(atic) wants them to win (I do). But when some of your best players are opting out (can't fault them at all), that goes to show how "important" they really are.

And why I wouldn’t get too wound up if we lose. We’re only down our Heisman candidate QB, our two best receivers and our defensive signal caller and best linebacker. Significantly depleted versus the team that won 10 games. It will be interesting to see if Milton can handle things and look at some of the younger guys but that’s about it for me. Nice reward for the team though and for fans that have suffered for the last 15 years.

You are correct, bowl games were my favorite sporting events. Those days are over and you can no longer compare old with new. Coaching salaries, athletic budgets, recruiting tactics, NIL money and the playoff system have changed the sport. Bowl games are like women's volleyball, no one is interested except the parents. Sad to see them go.

Florida got stomped by Oregon State and now Missouri is getting thumped by Wake Forest.

I am seriously worried about Tennessee's chances against Clemson. I would love for Tennessee to finish in top 10 but they really need to win bowl game. Worried that this will be a tough ask.

SEC always lays eggs in these bowl games, partially because so many players opt out.

What is the correlation between two of the worst teams in the SEC taking losses and our game against Clemson?

I for one am excited to see to potential of our team in 2023, which is what we will be seeing. Couple this team with some new recruits that should see early playing time ( many of which are early enrollees), plus more reps for the new starters, and we should see a brand new Vols team. I’m really rooting for Joe Milton. As we saw against South Carolina this year, when the light comes on for a QB it can be special.
All that being said I really want to beat Clemson, and watch that smug smile disappear from Dabo’s face.

I don’t like our chances with Milton at QB

Guess I have to hope Milton makes a statement that validates the validity of your analytical skills. Of course if he does I expect SOME folks to be versatile enough to play the BLIND HOG or Clemson cashed it in cards and double down on the meaningless card they have been posturing with. If he does not, then they will trash him for not excelling in a meaningless game. Don't have to be a psychic to see this coming.

Maybe to some, but most of us care. I hope I never get to the point of calling a UT game meaningless.
Hey I can't say that I blame some of them, but the bowl games dont mean much to a lot of the players. Didn't UF have 20 players sit out the bowl game?

early enrollees cannot travel with team or play in bowl games. they have the option of participating in on-campus practices.
