Man vs Wild vs Survivorman

I saw the episode where Bear was in Siberia and he decides to take a swim when the weather is like -10 degrees. The water had a layer of ice over it so he goes in and under the ice. I agree with blupotato, most people would die if they jumped in water that cold so people shouldn't watch the show for survival tips. The last thing I would want to be is wet if it were that cold outside.

I can't help but think about the Office episode when Michael Scott decided to take a Survivorman trip.

If anyone is watching either Man vs. Wild or Survivorman for anything other than entertainment value, then they probably deserve to die if they then head to the great outdoors to test that "advice".

Bear does his show for the money. I will easily admit that. He knows better than anyone else that his show is nothing more than a television program.

Given the choice between whom I would choose to follow, though, I would choose a former SAS operator every single time.

Aside from CAG, SAS has the most strenous selection process in the world.

Good post.

Man vs Wild is probably fake, but I enjoy watching it unlike the other show.

Well you can't even start a thread yet so it doesn't matter what you think!

Joke button on.

Bear for me, he's more entertaining. And BTW, how do you know les would be screwed. He's got to have some sorta "panic" device to send help. I don't believe he's "totally on his own". There is someone monitoring him.

Maybe something like an EPIRB (or similar). That makes sense. I think he may have even alluded to something along those lines once in a critical situation. But look at all the shots coming and going....that's a lot of extra, hard work to get those shots if you are alone, not to mention the added weight. It just seems a bit more realistic to me.

I am looking forward to seeing Will Ferrell with Bear. There will some serious clownin' going on.

bear needs to stop going deep into caves to try to get through mountains. i can't imagine a more stupid thing to do in a survival situation.

I also liked when he was in oregon this year and acted as though he was in serious physical danger. really bear? oregon?

If anyone was a "Bear" fan I figured it'd be you.:p

Probably my favorite two classes of college were a couple PE courses....Backpacking and Backpacking/Camping. The final exam for both was a 3 day, 2 night camping trip to the Virgin Falls area. You know when the professor is sharing his favorite toddy recepie that you're in for a good time. I actually have some pics from a few of the trips ('82-'84)that I'll try and post. Once you took the class you could go on the "finals" trip every period if you liked.
