Man vs Wild vs Survivorman

exactly. he could have gone a little ways down river and been in one of the most remote places on the planet. glad you know the area. i spent a lot of time down that way and will forever cherish the memories of some of the most beautiful and history rich areas. i could spend the rest of my life staring at handprints that were put on those rocks thousands of years ago. i was climbing down there a few years ago and actually stumbled upon a bow and a pair of mocasins in a small opening on a cliff side. i will never disclose that location.
You didn't find Everett Ruess down there did you? Newspaper Rock and campsite in Canyonlands.

i agree entirely. i did not post in this thread to necessarily discredit bear on his skills. because there is no doubt that he knows more than i do. but i just happened to see that episode and was able to call him out by knowing that area pretty well. it is just a tv show, but if he is going to portray it like he is roughing it, than actually do it. the other guys show is way more boring, but they both know more about survival in any environment than i will ever know. i just don't want to see people try and actually do the stupid things that bear does, because they may not have a hotel room to go to after they jump into a freezing river just before the sun goes down.

For sure. I don't think I would be playing in caves, eating a live snake, or swimming in freezing water in the Arctic. I would be doing all I could to make it through the night alive. Another show I've begun to watch is the "Dual Survivor"(or whatever it's called.)

As I type, I just put in a Man Vs. Wild episode so I must not hate it too bad.:p

newspaper rock is huge. i have never seen anything like that in one place. one can only imagine the natives chucking spears from the top of the canyon walls at mastodons in that park. canyonlands is a true national treasure. when i was in school and guiding in that area i had a professor who knew about all there was to know about that part of the world. there were times when we would be walking along some remote trail and he would pull me aside and reach down and show me some hidden pottery that had been there for thousands of years. that guy knew where all of the sweet stuff was at. makes me cry that lake powell destroyed so much.

bear must be doing a good job. i might be in the minority of people who can't stand english accents. i cringe whenever i hear one. just do me a favor and don't ever try an emulate what he does.

where do you live slydell?
Just a few miles south of Ogden. Great jumping off place. I can be in Yellowstone or Tetons in about 4-5 hours. Or, in Moab or Escalante in about the same time. Have you been around the Escalante area? That's a little hidden treasure over there.

i have. i went to school in leadville, colorado and guided trips all over the southwest. i also used to live in the west valley area. ogden has become quite a crime ridden area since i was there. although, i only lived in salt lake city for a short time as a kid. it is nice to find someone with some knowledge of that area.

As you know, this whole north/south strip/corridor from Provo to Brigham City resembles the area from San Berdoo to La in the way it's built. Everything in a straight line made up of many boros/cities or whatever you want to call them. Here, it's south to north-LA west to east. Anyway, a lot of areas and influences for crime. Ogden doesn't seem to be as bad as many say. To me anyway. I guess my point was that a lot of people squeezed in a limited space, you are going to hear more and it might seem worse. All in all, not bad. I do prefer the sw and se part of the state more because of much less population and more open spaces. Probably move to south within the next few years. SE or SW both have their advantages.

For those to whom have yet to weight in, Man vs Wilds new season has started today. The repeat of the season premiere is up at 12:00 on Discovery. Check it out.

Bear FTW.

I don't see how him sticking a branch that is 1-2 inches around down into snow, tying a rope around it and himself and rappelling down a 50 ft drop is fake.

But that's just me. Must have missed the hot tub he landed in.

Les. He films and does everything himself. He's not going to a hotel between day shoots and resting up.

Honestly though...you'd probably be fine with either of them.

i saw that episode, it was called the 'T' method or something like that. he said that he saw a guy do the same technique with a candy bar.

as for who's better, i would say their about the same in terms of knowledge on how to survive.

bear is moving so fast, there is no way he could film himself.

Les' show is much a slower pace because he films it himself. i would be thankfull if i had to survive with either of them.

The SAS is what every other elite military unit strives to be. The SAS is the model that Colonel Beckwith studied in order to assemble CAG. Basically, the SAS makes our SF, and our boat teams (SEALs, who should stick to seaborne operations), look like Boy Scouts.

I enjoy watching dual survival but out of the two I'd say man vs. Wild. Also check out Wild Recon, would love to be a part of that somehow.
