That's funny. I don't see a plethora of #56 Denver jerseys when I'm in East Tennessee, nor do I hear people bitching about the Broncos not being on the Knoxville affiliates.

I've never seen Wilson's jersey for sale. Plus, Al Wilson hasn't recently been on the verge of breaking any historic records or being a league MVP.

Jamal Lewis performed at that level and won a Super Bowl. Where are all the #31 Baltimore jerseys? Why aren't the Ravens on the Knoxville affiliates?

Jamal has been subpar the last couple of years. Plus he wasn't all that special while at UT. Also he's been in trouble.

Wasn't all that special? Without Jam's performances against Syracuse and Auburn, there's no National Title in '98. Also, how many SEC titles did Manning win with someone other than Jam at tailback?

I see. Since Jam was tailback in Manning's lone SEC championship, obviously, Jam was responsible. The Colts should probably ditch him and focus their money on signing Jam to a huge contract. Also, fans in TN should burn their #18 jerseys and replace them with those of the ultra-successful Baltimore Ravens. I think Jamal is really talented and all, but come on. Do you expect a running back that was often injured to be more popular than the guy that holds all UT's passing records?

I would consider a Super Bowl championship as successful as it gets. However, Manning/Colt fans have no frame of reference about such things. I was simply pointing out that Peyton manning has never won a title of any consequence, college or pro, without Jamal Lewis in the backfield with him.

Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl. I guess he sucks compared to Trent Dilfer. I'm sure Dilfer will be in the Hall of Fame as soon as he retires.

The same can be said of most any QB though. Doesn't mean anything against Manning. Every QB needs a good system to be able to succeed. He has to have skills for himsel thereafter, but the personnel need to be around him in the first place.

I think the east Tennessee masses generally favor Peyton over guys like Jamal because of the pride Peyton has always shown in being a Volunteer and the manner in which he conducts himself. Peyton is the guy who passed up the opportunity to be a top 5 pick in the nfl draft to come back to UT...Jamal left early. (that's no knock against Jamal...if I had millions of dollars waiting on me, and a history of injury problems, I wouldn't risk my draft status by returning to college.)

Peyton is the guy who is frequently on campus supporting the current vols and the coaching staff...and Peyton has managed to represent himself like a responsible adult and role model...Jamal has been in prison on drug charges. On the football field, both players are exceptional talents. It's the person that Peyton is off the field that makes him such a fan favorite in Tennessee.

Bret Favre won a Super Bowl with a team far less talented than Indy had last year.

Yeah but how many super bowls did he win without Reggie White? I'll give you a hint: It's the same number of SEC championships Peyton won without Jamal Lewis. Thus, they are both inferior QBs that should not be allowed to play in the NFL.

Also, I don't think Favre faced a team as talented as recent Patriot teams and last year's Steelers.

I never implied a QB has to have a wealth of talent around him. But enough to get the job done. Favre had that.

Peyton didn't have the defense before this last season, and this season... Well, there's no excuse for what happened in the playoffs, they simply imploded as soon as they lost a game.

Not to mention Lewis' character issues.

When you say character issues are you referring to how he laid down after he got hurt to protect himself for the draft. That is what got me ticked.

Yeah, he should have played hurt for a bunch of ungrateful fans and the glory of dear Ole UT. I'm sure the everyone would have pitched in to help him financially if his NFL propects got destroyed by injury. Just ask Chuck Webb.

Peyton has a lot to prove period. I am waiting for Tony Dungy to get a Tampa Bay style defense in place. When Brett was in his prime, there is no doubt he could beat you in many ways ala John Elway. There are just a few of us on this site that are not ready to bury Manning just yet. Until he wins the big one, you will certainly have the superior argument.

I was at the game Travis Henry dove over the line, into the endzone, landing head first.Stayed on the ground for several minutes.Yet, he came back and played ASAP!He nearly broke his freakin neck!I know Jamal was hurt, but he only had half the heart of Travis IMO while at UT.Travis was just as instrumental winning that N/C as was anyone.

Players who contributed more to the National Championship Effort than Travis Henry(in no particular order)- Al Wilson, Tee Martin, Jamal Lewis, Raynoch Thompson, Deon Grant, Cosey Coleman, Jeff Hall, Peerless Price, Dwayne Goodrich, Billy Ratliff, Darwin Walker, and Shaun Ellis.

Who carried the load against Syracuse and Florida, both BCS teams in '98? Who single handedly carried the offense in the Auburn game? People's jealousy and hatred for Jamal Lewis really shows when they try to prop up a second rate midget like Travis Henry to being on the same level as Jam. What did the sainted Henry carry UT to in '99 and '00, his two years as a feature back? Absolutely nothing, which is exactly what he is when compared to an elite talent like Lewis.

Now hate. I asked who had more yards in 1998? Also your wrong in that I don't hate Jamal. Not one bit. I asked a simple question of you. Who had more yards and carries in 1998?

Given that he played more games, especially against the viscious defenses of Kentucky and Vanderbilt, my guess is Emmanuel Lewis. How many yards did Webster have against Syracuse, Florida, and Auburn? Henry was Jam's caddy, pure and simple.

When you talk about some of our former players in that manner you seem more like a bammer than a Vol. You seem foolish in fact.
