Maybe we just played harder because the guys on defense were actually getting the credit they deserved instead of watching the media slobber over their own creation?

Or maybe they were just a little better. They gave up almost 100 points less in '98 than they did in '97.

Hat, tell me the only Vol QB in the last 50 years to win two SEC Championships? Also name the QB's since 1985 that started 2 or more years to not win an SEC C'ship during their tenure?

Bonus question: name the starting QB for the season opener in 2000?

Andy Kelly won in '89 and '90. Casey Clausen and Jeff Francis. Joey Matthews.

Heath Shuler also started two years and didn't win an SEC championship.

Throw Heath Shuler in there too . . .and technically Erik Ainge.

Well, I think Clausen started the last 4 and Schaeffer the first 2, so that means that Ainge would have had to have started 5 of the middle 7 ganes to get the majority of the starts, and I'm pretty sure he did that.

Martin was sorrounded by much better talent then Manning was

I don't see that Martin was surrounded by better talent. I will always hold a place in my heart for what Tee did for the Vols and our program in general. He wanted it, the team wanted it, and they pulled together on the loss of Peyton. From the day Peyton pulled his jersey off for the last time, no one gave the Vols a chance, and they rallied. They pulled it together and played with more heart, than they have since. Tee Martin wasn't NFL material, but a leader on the field, at NCAA level. I never see any Clausen being worthy of a mention in the same breath as a Manning. I think Peyton and Eli have both shown that. Two Clausens have played, and had their chance, and neither made it to the next level. I just want to hide and watch J. Crompton. He seems to have the stuff, now can he make the team rally? I guess I am jumping ahead, because I know there is Ainge, and I hope he can. BUT, there has to be a leader and someone to give you focus, and I haven't seen that in Ainge, yet. I hope he can. JMHO

That's funny. I don't see a plethora of #56 Denver jerseys when I'm in East Tennessee, nor do I hear people bitching about the Broncos not being on the Knoxville affiliates.
i've actually looked for them....i wanted to get one of the alternate orange Al Wilson Bronco's jersey....couldn't find one anywhere....weird huh?

1. In '98, UT won the SEC and National Championships.
2. One.
3. Again, the '98 SEC and National Championships.

I knew these answers, and I knew YOU knew these answers.

You've indicated earlier that East TN has a much higher than average redneck population. Maybe some of those folks aren't equipped for online shopping? Maybe they prefer to head to Champs Sports or wherever and pick up what's on the rack. They won't find Wilson jerseys there. I also doubt they travel to Colorado very frequently. Also, this is purely hypothetical, I think that if Tee Martin had been even marginally successful in the NFL, you'd be able to find a good number of his jerseys on the backs of Knoxvillians. People tend to love a QB, it's just the nature of football. I think that's a huge reason why PM is probably more popular than Jamal Lewis. Peyton is the most successful thing UT has going right now at QB, which isn't saying all that much. Even so, he's been to like 8 pro bowls and pretty much always tops 4000 yards passing. He's a QB, an NFL star, and he's from UT. Ergo, people in Knoxville will like him.

So now the media created PM? This gets richer everyday. I guess the media used trick photography to make it look like he threw all those passes as good as he did?

You post all the time on here about how some hate on other players (Jamal, Al Wilson and others) yet it seems you never pass on a chance to bash any of the more fan favorite players. You talk worse about some of our players than I have read on bammer boards.

Uh, news flash to all on here. PM is very popular all over the nation! I've seen kids in several states wearing a Blue 18 jersey.

with Manning it ws him, Little, and Fair. With Martin he had Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Travis Stephens, Al Wilson, Peerless Price, Chad Clifton, Shaun Bryson and a bunch more guys, big difference

Al Wilson played with Peyton Manning for three years. Did Manning leaving suddenly make Al better? I think it made Knoxville a better place, but I don't know about the players.

Hat, when you step away from the keyboard to go get a bite to eat, are you just grinning from ear to ear at how easy it is to flip the switches around here?

Yeah, just look at how great Indianapolis was before Peyton arrived. Boy, he's really run that franchise into the ground. I'm sure everybody can't wait till he's out of there.

We had one awesome season immediately following Peyton's departure. Since then, we've had two pretty good ones, 2001 and 2004. The rest have been fairly disappointing. This is largely due to offensive struggles.

He's won the same number of Super Bowls or AFC Championships as Jeff George did. Or Jack Trudeau. Or Jim Harbaugh.

He's won the same number of Super Bowls I have, as well. However he's thrown 250 more touchdowns than I have.
