Manning didnt win in Florida, do you think Clausen is therefore a better QB?

:lolabove: :eek:lol: :eek:lol: :eek:lol: :eek:lol: ......sorry, i just couldn't help myself. clausen was an above average quarterback, but come on. andy kelly was better than clausen and so was heath shuler so there should be no comparison between manning and casey.

Who carried the load against Syracuse and Florida, both BCS teams in '98? Who single handedly carried the offense in the Auburn game? People's jealousy and hatred for Jamal Lewis really shows when they try to prop up a second rate midget like Travis Henry to being on the same level as Jam. What did the sainted Henry carry UT to in '99 and '00, his two years as a feature back? Absolutely nothing, which is exactly what he is when compared to an elite talent like Lewis.

I'm pretty sure your hero Casey Clausen was one of the principal reasons UT didn't win an NC in 00. Travis Henry was the offense in 00 against Florida, if anyone else would have showed up, UT would have won. I thought the 4th down pitch in 99 that lost the Florida game went to Jamal Lewis. The biggest play of the season in 99.

Yeah, kind of like the third and six inches that Arnold Drummond failed to convert in '00 against Florida. If the sainted Gary Coleman picks up the first down, Florida never sees the ball at the end of the game. Also, Clausen didn't start until the Alabama game. UT won all of his regular season starts.

Arnold Drummond?..lol

Its a lot different playing florida with Tee Martin at QB instead of who UT had in 00. That guy couldn't throw it 15 yds downfield.

Players who contributed more to the National Championship Effort than Travis Henry(in no particular order)- Al Wilson, Tee Martin, Jamal Lewis, Raynoch Thompson, Deon Grant, Cosey Coleman, Jeff Hall, Peerless Price, Dwayne Goodrich, Billy Ratliff, Darwin Walker, and Shaun Ellis.
As much as Henry, not more. The one person that was hands down top dog of the N/C game for UT was Tee...278 yards passing. We only had 114 total rushing yards.I know the d played their hearts out.................Of course Jeff Hall kicked a 27 yarder at Syracuse last play of the game to win that opener.Against Florida Al Wilson caused 3 fumbles. The heros are plenty.

When you talk about some of our former players in that manner you seem more like a bammer than a Vol. You seem foolish in fact.

Manning is the best Quarterback in UT history & it's not even close
as you said Shuler & kelly were better than clausen

A few fun questions from a unbiased, fair middle ground:

1. How many SEC championships did Jamal Lewis win without Peyton Manning?

2. How many SEC championships did UT win with Peyton?

3. How many did UT win after he left?

Peyton is the best PASSER in UT history, and I think he is the best we've had. You can't base or compare two careers against one single opponent.

He did/does have some shortcomings, and he is not a God. I like him, but he's not the Holy Ghost.

1. In '98, UT won the SEC and National Championships.
2. One.
3. Again, the '98 SEC and National Championships.

In UT history, peyton manning isnt the greatest qb to put on a uniform. when its all said and done no one cares about your stats in college, they care about winning championships, and he never brought one home like tee martin did.

Now if we are talking about greatest UT qb to make the transition into the nfl, then its manning hands down, but anything else after that is up for grabs.

Gee, I don't remember a bunch of freshmen or JUCOS in '98, so where did this "much better talent" come from?

I think the talent levels were pretty much the same. The defense was probably a little bit better in '98.

WARNING: This thread is become Bammer Board cannon fodder.

OK. Now back to your regularly-scheduled off-season idiocy.

I think if anything, it was more about how we played. We probably played a more aggressive style of defense in '98. A lot more blitzing and man coverage.

I don't really have anything to base that on, but it seemed that way.

Maybe we just played harder because the guys on defense were actually getting the credit they deserved instead of watching the media slobber over their own creation?
