I'm in no way suggesting Nico will have a career anywhere close to Peyton's. I have not been in that camp. He's a freshman that has a lot of growing to do, but probably not as much as most of us professional and expert analyzers are suggesting. I think he's closer than we think.

He has beaten UF in his first ever match up against them and I like his way too early chances against them in the swamp next season. Hopefully UF somehow retains this turd of a coach and I really like UTs chances, but they could also be in year one of a new hire coach and in a hot mess with all that.....

Florida averaged 44 points per game against the 3 Tennessee teams for which Manning started.

The next year, Tee Martin threw for 65 yards against Florida and Tennessee won. Because Florida only scored 17.

It’s a team game.

Supporting cast wasn't good enough.. UF had it rolling at that time. Not many teams were beating UF in those days.

It was talented, but Spurrier did what he wanted to Chavis until 1998. Even in that game, Florida moved the ball up and down the field, but we kept causing them to turn it over. And Al Wilson.

Both teams were loaded. I think Spurrier/Stoops (games actually got a little more competitive once Stoops left if I recall correctly) just out coached our staff. There isn’t shame in that, they outcoached almost everyone. I don’t think Florida had a vastly superior roster. JMO.

LOS is where they kicked our Butt's every year.. Couldn't block their dline.. Couldn't run the ball. That's why they lost those games.

Agree but it would have been nice to have Al Wilson in 1997 as well. I felt like the team rallied more around Tee Martin than Peyton Manning and Tee Martin had an ability to run which wasn't that common in that era.

Remembering that year, Tee Martin was just a different QB archetype than anything Tennessee put on the field in the past and it made the Fulmer teams different during his time.

True, that’s always going to be a major factor. One surprising thing about the 96 game is how Manning threw for almost 500, Weurfel had like 160 or something, and still lost, and it wasn’t as close as score indicates.

Nico didn't beat Florida either.

This plus turnovers, back than the team to run the ball best usually won.

The same supporting cast in 1998 was there in 1997.

Manning couldn’t break down the defense with his legs.

Tee could. And he was able to hit Price for a TD. Our defense was salty in 1998, but it was arguably more talented in 1997

It’s a team game, but we seriously don’t need to give Manning a pass for going 0-4 vs Florida.
We give him credit for ending the streak against Bama do we not?

No reason to make excuses. Just like there’s no reason to make excuses that Nico is holding this team back at the moment.

Manning was 0-3. Let's not pretend Tee was very good in the 98 UF game either
