Manning Never Beat Florida

Both teams were loaded. I think Spurrier/Stoops (games actually got a little more competitive once Stoops left if I recall correctly) just out coached our staff. There isn’t shame in that, they outcoached almost everyone. I don’t think Florida had a vastly superior roster. JMO.
This highlights a really good point. UF’s DC during those 90s teams went on to be one of the top CFB coaches of the past 25 years or so. Our DC never progressed past that point. It is clear one coaching staff was much better than the other.

I didn’t even mention Charlie Strong and Ellis Johnson.

Our staff was very good too(Dan Brooks, Caldwell, Barry was OL coach a while, Cut, Lovie for a couple years, Garner, etc), I just think Spurrier mostly coached circles around Fulmer and maybe got in his head quite a bit. There is a reason we threw parties when the guy went to the NFL.

Not being able to beat Florida is why Peyton never won a natty at Tennessee. I recall it used to suck knowing your season was pretty much over after the third game. Hoping for another SEC East team to beat Florida after they'd beaten Tennessee the third week of the season back in the day was the definition of angst. That is exactly why I'm savoring this win, as ugly as it was.

I'm in no way suggesting Nico will have a career anywhere close to Peyton's. I have not been in that camp. He's a freshman that has a lot of growing to do, but probably not as much as most of us professional and expert analyzers are suggesting. I think he's closer than we think.

He has beaten UF in his first ever match up against them and I like his way too early chances against them in the swamp next season. Hopefully UF somehow retains this turd of a coach and I really like UTs chances, but they could also be in year one of a new hire coach and in a hot mess with all that.....
The Florida teams that Manning played were a whole different level of competition. Florida was a perineal top 5 football team back then.

Florida hasn't been at that level in 15 years and we still have trouble beating them 😂

Cost him the Heisman to. ESPN used that in their campaign he didn't deserve it. Forgot his name now but a DB from Mich won it with ESPN's backing.

It's even more telling that we didn't win a NC with Manning playing here.

Nico didn't beat Florida either.
True, it's a team win. But, Nico did hand the ball to Sampson. Without the ball, Sampson wouldn't score. So, as a team member, he did beat Florida after all.
Which means you're wrong despite being right. You Volgod worshipers are a hoot.

That Florida team Sat had ample opportunity to run up the score, fumbled on the goal line, had the ball on their end so many times and couldn't score. Credit our defense, but a Steve Spurrier team would have made the outcome different
That may be true but that says more about UT than UF. That Florida team is bad with a lame duck head coach. The teams that Manning faced were in the top 5 every freaking year and they beat us like a drum even though UT was also very highly rated.

Those Florida teams would put up 50 points on this Florida team for 12 straight games.

Agree but it would have been nice to have Al Wilson in 1997 as well. I felt like the team rallied more around Tee Martin than Peyton Manning and Tee Martin had an ability to run which wasn't that common in that era.

Remembering that year, Tee Martin was just a different QB archetype than anything Tennessee put on the field in the past and it made the Fulmer teams different during his time.
Manning didn't have his best outings in 96 and 97

Florida averaged 44 points per game against the 3 Tennessee teams for which Manning started.

The next year, Tee Martin threw for 65 yards against Florida and Tennessee won. Because Florida only scored 17.

It’s a team game.
I remember thinking that was the worst I'd seen a UT QB play and win the game. It's was an odd (but wonderful) win

He was still a 19 year old kid. Money or no money they’re still young and working on their craft.
Very true.... but now with the new college football... it's going to be similar to the NFL and NFL fans.... Money = Expectations... not saying it's right or wrong... but it's here.
