Mark Smith

I can't imagine I'm even saying this....but this sucks....I liked how the guys were responding to him (per interviews)....what is the guy who we are planning on hiring like?

Hope it doesn't take long to get the new guy in place - these guys need to be working. Wonder if this will throw off the system he had in place, and will disrupt any ongoing programs the players are on? This position on the staff is more important than people think.

That OM guy sounds good - I like hiring a former vol.
Go Vols.

UT graduate Aaron Ausmus, Ole Miss’s strength and conditioning coach and a former assistant strength coach at Southern California, was considered before Smith was hired and could be approached again this time. He has experience with Kiffin and assistant head coach Ed Orgeron, who brought him to Ole Miss in 2005.

i found this on Aaron

Guy looks like powder compared to black steel, but that's cool. As long as you've got someone in place to instill a sense of urgency regarding lifting weights, rather than just going through the motions, we should be head and shoulders above last year.

I thought Chris Lowe would be good to report good things. Now he uses the Kiffin hatred for personnal gain. it isnt even that big of a deal for the world to know and Lowe has a article up talking about everything Kiffin has done then goes into the article. Should we expect 2-4 paragraphs of backstory crap from now on on every article.

VOLS WIN NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP 20??
Kiffin who started off pissing coaches off.....

just annoying I have to read through crap to get to only 2 lines of quality reading.
Sorry for the rant just gets me going when he throws crap up to get ratings.

Kiff's gonna bring the Strength Coach that worked with them at USC. Double hammer, gets one of the premier young and upcoming strength coaches and takes Ole Miss's strenght coach at the same time. Didn't want Ole Miss to fell slighted, they were about the only team in the SEC we hadn't taken a recruit,a recruiter or a verbal shot at, besides Vandy! I guess he's gonna leave the Commadorks alone, sure don't want Steve Martin and that bunch of killers mad at us!!!!! LMAO!! GO KIFF KEEP STIRRING,MOST FUN I'VE HAD SINCE 98!

I am going to call it right now. We are going to throw the kitchen sink at Moffitt and he will join the staff.:crossfingers:

Wow this sucks but as said before, if he is not working well or gelling with the others and not demanding 110% then buh bye!

So by this i'm assuming he is still here....

Good to hear! I hate to see him go!

However if he does go, I wouldn't mind seeing the S&C coach from Ole Miss come.

The one that CEO knows, Aaron Ausmus, is now at North Texas. I'd imagine we're not interested in getting the current Ole Miss S&C coach.

They were talking about this on the local radio this morning. They basically said that kiffin told smith to contact USCs S & C coach to get an idea of how they want their players conditioned. So smith called them and was told how to do it, and then came back and did it his own way which made kiffin mad.

Asmus is no longer at Ole Miss. He worked with Orgeron there, but was let go when EO was fired. He is now North Texas' S&C coach...so we are stealing from them, not Ole Miss, unfortunately.

I hate to loose Smith. As someone mentioned earlier. Many of the players seemed to like his program.
I am sure many vol fans will agree he was an upgrade from Long.

I lost respect for Long wen Eric Berry was asked about the S&C program at the time and he said it wasnt much different than his HS.

There was some sort of confrontation between Smith and CLK or someone else on the staff a few months ago soon after Smith got here where reportedly he through everyone out of the weight room. Perhaps Smith is a bit too much his way for the Kiffen/Orgeron crew's taste. If so, then they should get someone in who is both an effective S&C coach and can blend into the staff better.

Also if the reports are true that he was making the weight room a football only place, that won't play long with Pearl and Summit.

I don't know, but perhaps Smith needs to improve his interpersonal skills.

It sucks losing Smith. It sounds like the facts surrounding the departure are still emerging, but this one falls squarely on Kiffin. Kiffin hired Smith and was responsible for doing his diligence to make sure that the guy was a great coach (yes) and a solid fit (sounds like no). I hope UT finds a solid replacement, but this can't be good for the players as far as uncertainy and lack of continuity. I hope the players stay focused in spite of the distractions and continue working hard to get ready for the season. I'm pulling for Kiffin to get the next S&C hire right and getting the team to September without any more significant distractions. Go Vols!

I am sure he was an upgrade to what was there before from what I have read here,,, but with all this pro experience on this staff I am just as confident that CLK will get another one,,, he is paying top dollar so he will get a good one. Maybe he will get the Raiders guy to jab it at Al again.

But then the Mat Barkley rumors get started again and you go back to waiting on govols xtra to break it after cnnsi.

Is Barkley coming to work with the new S&C coach? :)

Or, are both waiting to see if Gruden takes the GA job at UT instead of the Monday night gig?

Like someone said on here earlier, do we feel like this could disrupt the workout plan that he had in place??

I understand we are probably going to get a good new SC coach, but wouldn't it mess with the workout plan the players on..
