Marlon Brown

That is correct! My brother is best friends with the Head Coach at Harding Academy where Marlon plays and he told my brother it's us and UGA!

The only thing that sucks is that the Coach wont steer him to UT or any other school. He wants to stay out of it and let the athletes decide where to go. If it were me, every top recruit that came out of Memphis would be wearing ORANGE!

Guess we will find out next month!

GO VOLS!!!!

Wait til Coach O Sumo wrestles his arse!!

I have a feeling that a lot of this will change under the Kiffins. I can't imagine a HS coach who wouldn't relish the opportunity to rub elbows with Monte Kiffin. The days of West TN talent going out of state are coming to an end. HS coaches will have a legitimate reason to sway kids towards UT under the new staff.

Marlon's stock has gone down since the All-American game.

Down: Marlon Brown, WR, Harding Academy/Memphis, Tenn., Undecided
Brown came into the week as the top UA All-American receiver but really didn't do much in practice to justify it. While his overall size and body strength was really impressive in person, he showed just adequate burst out of his breaks and top-end speed after the catch. Brown obviously made an early statement in the UA game itself, showing better speed in the second level and big-play ability. While he may be a gamer, we still feel his play is inconsistent. There is no questioning his striking frame and big hands as an outside receiver prospect, but we thought we would see more fluidity, explosiveness and game-breaking ability deserving of a No. 2 overall receiver. While still an impressive athlete for his size, he just did not flash the game-changing ability we expected to see and at times blended in with the pack.

Maybe he just needs some coaching and someone to stay on him and make him work hard. He obviously has the tools needed.

Do you think our QB issue will affect his or any other receivers decision?

It potentially could, but if the recruiter talks it up right he will convince the player that we are going to get a top 5 guy next year. I think it matters, but can be overlooked for some of these guys

I'd also highlight the fact that no one other than G Jones really stepped up to help the QBs also. I'd say something like, "You can't underestimate how much better a QB becomes when he has an talented, open playmaker to throw to."

I still contend that CLK isn't so worried about it because too much of the blame has been cast on the QBs. If only one highly regarded guy had failed then it would be fair to lay it at his feet... maybe even two guys.... but all three of those guys were considered top 15-20 QBs in their recruiting years. That points to significant problems beyond them.

In short, I don't really think it is an issue that can't be sold past.

Never understood this fanbase's infatuation with GJ.

I still say throw out the stars because as long as he is the best prospect in Tennessee then CLK will want him to show that we pursue the top in-state talent.

He hasn't done that much. I like him, and still think he could be a great player. He's not yet, IMO.

I'm not infatuated. He's a very good player. Being UT's only consistent and significant threat at WR this year, he drew alot of double cover and cover schemes aimed at him.

The biggest problem GJ had was no one else scared defenses.

I am hopeful that the new staff will get more of the potential from guys like Paige and that GJ will blossom into the player his talent and attitude suggest he can be.

They did not visit with Marlon Brown yesterday like speculated. They went to talk to LB Greg King from Melrose in Memphis. They are expected to go watch his basketball game Friday though. This is all per rivals.

I think that Kiffin has seen what Marlon Brown likes and thats BIG PUB! I haven't heard any other coach give him that much hype like Kiffin and I think that will make the difference for us if it is between us and GA. IMO I think he would be over shadowed by Green at GA.

Then consider yourself in the minority. Gerald Jones is a playmaker. That has been rare in recent memory other than one year of Robert Meachem.

What has he done though? 320 yards receiving this year. Regardless of the QBs, that is bad. No elite speed. Just above average quickness. He does have a good mind for the game though.

He's good enough to be a solid football player. That's it. No wow factor. Nothing more than solid.

for being 6'5 and 205, i consider him pretty athletic !
he's allready one of the biggest WR's in his class.. and his vertical and forty is above average at least..

If he was 6'0 with his speed it would be different. but factor in that size, and he is actually more athletic than Dwayne Jarrett was at USC

I want Brown for 1 reason.....He is the top ranked player in the state. If he was from Ga, he would not be a big sign. UT needs the best from the state.

One thing I have noticed on ALL the commitments and recruits (except LB's) is they are SLOW........Brown is slow also.

UT needs speed.

Rogers, Stokes, Hunter, Thigpen, Oku and Gordon all run 4.4s. Thigpen runs 4.3. Your right, this class has no speed.
