Marlon Brown

I think Kiffin is having a tough time selling "The Plan". Sure, he has peaked interest from guys that may not have had interest before. But the Saban's, Richt's and Meyer's of the world are pointing out the holes in his resume. I dont think he has had enough time to prove himself to these recruits. And then he gets rid of the guys that have been developing relationships with these kids. I don't see any way that the loss of Drayton helps us. With some of these guys, it will be the last straw.

So Kotheb you have the ability to determine a person's sanity by reading one post? You sound like an immature dip s--- with orange colored glasses to me. How do you figure he has shut down the borders without getting one of the best recruits in the state yet?

First off, glad to see that you are mature.

Second off, where in that post did I ever say anything about him locking down the borders this year?

He hasn't had enough time to do so - he's competing against people that have had a year or longer to recruit the same players he's going after. I guess he gets no credit for Eric Gordon - but it's not like he's from Tennessee, right? :dunno:

Reading comprehension is a powerful tool.

if drayton is in fact gone, id say brown goes UGA

if we could hire a top-shelf WR's coach that made a positive impression on Brown, I think it could negate losing Drayton. it's not like Drayton was going to coach WR's anyways---he was there for one yr as RB's coach. he's not a part of any TN dynasty.

he was the main guy that brown built a relationship with... losing him will hurt.. badly.

Post from VQ.... I have no knowledge of the poster but this topic is currently being discussed.

"FWIW, talked to Stan Drayton a little while ago.. I asked him point blank if he was going to be able to stay and he said he didn't know, he had a few options. I asked him if one of his options was to possibly stay here and he said that he thought so. I will say that in observing his body language, I would think that the situation is still up in the air and even he isn't sure that he will be retained, but from what he said that possiblity remains an option. So i don't believe him leaving is 100% sure just yet. Just posting what the man said, take it for what it's worth. Nice guy.."

Wasn't Scott plugged into Virginia? The Tidewater area in SE VA produces a lot of good football players, some of whom have played for the Vols--and while VaTech is somewhat formidable in the state, VA is pretty close to Tennessee and it's a good potential recruiting area for us, IF we got somebody who's plugged into the big schools. Not sure we do now.

we'll be fine...we can't have a coach who dominates each specific area around the country...there's talent everywhere and we'll get it one place or another. Plus the Tidewater area has been a pro-UT place for a while so we might still be fine there as well.

It has been, and probably will continue to be so overall but the Tajh Boyd scenario did leave a little bit of a bad taste in some people's mouths around here. Still plenty of guys to point to from the area as good examples but considering we lost our main VA recruiter and then turned away a big time recruit from the area, lets just say the timing could have been a bit better.

Would it have left a better taste in the mouths of those people if CLK had kept Boyd and he rode the bench or was forced to be a marginal WR/KR/etc. for four years?

I know that some people think the Boyd thing was a mistake, but I think that it would have been much more damaging to UT in the long run to take him and then watch as his talent was wasted because he doesn't fit the offensive scheme.

I couldn't agree more with you, I'm just telling you what impression I got from around here. Don't get me wrong, I am far from "plugged in" but I do know a coach in the area who was just telling me the impression he was getting from some of his peers.

Anyway, I'm one of the people who have been very impressed by the way CLK and staff have handled things but I wouldn't mind them coming back to the area next year and bringing Phillip Sims to the Hill.

Phillip Sims is definitely the qb I want CLK to sign for us next year. I watched the video from the game where Askew broke the qb's leg in, I think, the semifinal playoff game, and I was blown away by Sims. This was before I even knew that he was a highly rated junior. He has great size and a great arm.

Yeah, I have yet to see him in person but I plan on doing so next year but I have seen a couple videos and heard from people who coached against him who have raved.

He is an absolute PHENOM no doubt about it!! I don't know that Tennessee has ever had a QB with as much ability as Sims (Manning included).

me living in va i can say that tech is pretty dominant in the state. Number one reason is bc UVA is such a tough school and its hard to get into. VT's football program has always been good but they choke on big games(nickname for them here is chokies). Out of the 4 BCS games they played theve only won one and that was this year. I think if we recruited more up here we could get alot of the tidewater players.i mean lets face it,acc is no sec.who wouldnt wanna play for the sec?

I can remember when we were called "Wide Receiver U."

CLK could use Marlon Brown as a cornerstone to building that strong receiver tradition, again.

Get him, Lane!

acc is no sec.

That matters to us as fans a lot more than it matters to a recruit.

Living in the tidewater area, I can attest to the fact that VT does not have the same kind of pull as a lot of in state schools do. Some kids grow up wanting to play for Tech but not like a Bama or Texas kid does. I know that CLK keeps loading his new staff with ace recruiter after ace recruiter so I shouldn't be worried but I was really happy having a guy like Latrell Scott on staff bc he was entrenched in the state of VA.

As I said before, I just hope one of these great recruiters comes and scoops up Sims.

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. Just wanted to throw in a comment. My Dad is VT alumn so I get all sorts of stuff from him about the Hokies.

It's not so much that they choke as it is Frank Beamer doesn't treat bowl games as seriously as he should. He treats them as a reward for the players. He has caught a lot of grief with the fans (who travel great) bc they were tired of going to bowl games and losing.

This year with the heat on (and playing Cincinnati) he stepped up and prepared harder.

Sorry for the VT insert here, just thought it was an interesting tidbit.
