Marlon Brown

Here you go! The time/distance wil vary depending website used.
Per Yahoo

Memphis to Knoxville = 391.77 miles 5:52 hrs

Memphis to Athens = 456.52 miles 7:24 hrs

Kiffin should just print this post out and take it to Marlon and I am sure he would commit on the spot!:birgits_giggle:

Watch this kid sign with Ole Miss.

This is what they will be telling him when he visits.
- We are building something special at Ole Miss and you are going to be a BIG part of it
- Did you watch us beat Florida last year?
- You will start immediately
- Ole Miss is only 1hr 15min. away
- Travel will be much easier for your family
- You can easily drive home whenever you want

I won't be surprised at all.

Just heard John Brice from Volquest on the Sports Monster and he said Drayton will probably be let go in the next few days. He did say Drayton was at the coaches convention and has several schools interested in him. He said he thinks it will a bad decision for Kiffin to let him go and he also thought it was a mistake to let Lattrell Scott go.

Drayton is the one guy I really thought Kiffin should retain. He knows better than I do though.
recruiting aside, I have seen no evidence that he is even a decent running backs coach...

couple that with his urging Jarvis Giles to explore other options after CPF was fired...

I think we should have canned him long ago.

Really who has he recruited and actually gotten a commit from since he has been at UT? Anyone? Anyone?

If we do not get Marlon Brown this recruiting class will be less than stellar. At some point we have to keep the best Tenn. prospects in Tenn. I have heard this " close the border" for years but it seems that no one can do it. There is some reason these players are going out of state and we have to stop the bleeding. I have confidence in the current coaching staff but it seems that even they cannot keep talent in state. At Kiffins press conference he said he was flying to Memphis to see the best WR in the nation and that set the standard IMO for this years recruiting class. Many will say that he got in too late but he has had plenty of time to sway Brown.

You really think he has had plenty of time? It's really hard to lock down the borders when he's had a little over a month as head coach and hasn't actually done anything on the field. He's selling the kids right now on his word and doing so in a very short period of time. If you think that what's he done so far in his short time recruiting for UT doesn't prove that he can lock down the border next year, then I think you're crazy.

Another thing when you are talking about Memphis that is important to remember, while it is in the same state as UT, Knoxville is further away than several other SEC schools because of the location. Tennessee is really a centrally located state in the South and there are a lot of fans, especially here in Middle Tennessee, that grow up rooting for a different school. It is a very difficult state to lock down unless you have a top-tier program and top-tier recruiters. Hopefully it will get done, but we have to have success on the field and effort being put in to really secure the borders which was never really done to the extent that it needed to be under Fulmer. We are still going to lose prospects from TN to other schools. It's going to happen. But hopefully we can keep more of them here at home than has been done in the past several years.

Notice it's just the minority coaches that are the mistake aside from Larry Slade?? John is a great asset to VQ and respect his opinions, but we need coaches who can recruit well and coach well no matter the color of their skin.
