Martin interested in Illinois opening (Rumor)

I will give you that your source brought the thunder with the "personal issues" bit. That phrase generally accompanies legitimate information.

Again, I am taking what he said with a grain of salt. It's not a first-person source.

Through the grapevine, I've heard that Cuonzo is actually considering Illinois in part due to some personal issues. Illinois and Purdue are the only jobs he would leave for.

The grapevine also informed me that he was furious with the team's complacency before the MTSU game. He said they seemed like they'd rather be on Spring Break than in the NIT

Take it with a grain of salt.

Just stop just stop!!! Look any of those players would have rather been on SB than play in the NIT thats a fact now if they would have made the NCAA and would still be playing this week during SB they would have been a lot more motivated thats not coming from a source thats just a fact that everyone knows...the returning players can only blame themselves cause im sure those first few weeks of off season workouts will be turned up a few notches

ok then y u so mad?

hope he doesn't go, but he has a lot to prove at this point, his three new recruits don't even have a rating, unless I am mistaken

Who said im mad? Just more people need to go through and read threads before posting and actually read some of their posts will have already been answered

I totally understand the frustration, but sometimes when I log on, there are dozens of unread pages in a thread. Now way I'm going to go through all of them.

Illinois will have a harder time than others filling their position. Folks there often talk about 'playing the Chicago game' that's necessary to get the top kids out of the city. Bill Self could do it. Webber couldn't. There's a smaller pool of coaches who are well-connected and willing (read what you want into this) to do that.

Cuonzo is probably one of the few that could, though I'd be really surprised if he bolted at this point. I could see him leaving for a B1G job in the future, just not now.

VCU coach Shaka Smart turned down Illinois. How many of you think they will come after CCM? If they do, do you think he will take the job?

Fwiw Shaka just turned town the Illinois job. We will know for sure here in the next few days whether or not Coach Martin will stay.

Martin should get the HINT by Smart turing it down --- they have no players at Illinois -- it would be a type of situation Dooley has --- 3 years or more to rebuild -- Weber stuck around because he had Bill Selfs players the 1st 2 seasons then everything went downhill.

Really? I mean Smart seems like a good coach, but is he really in a position to dispute the proposed salary? Unless it was a ridiculously low offer, I wouldn't think Smart could have that much control.

Bump.

Told ya there was a good chance e wouldn't leave. He's like Stevens really likes where he's at.
