Martin interested in Illinois opening (Rumor)

What in the world are facts doing on a message board? Where is the hyperbole? The absurd? The chic , unique POV? We cannot allow Mama's basement dwellers to be driven from this site. :)
:lolabove: :lolabove: You are correct, fact check is b***h !! :post-4-1090547912:

I actually believe him, which means he's probably as good as gone.

I'd be surprised if he left this year, though I don't know if he's a long-term UT guy.

I find it both odd that Cuonzo would be considered, and that UT fans would be paranoid of him leaving. No one even knew who this guy was a year ago. He lost in the 2nd round of NIT to an in-state directional school.

Nothing against CCM, but UT could have replaced him with a more qualified coach. A year removed from the Pearl debacle and no looming sanctions makes a huge difference. I see CCM as nothing more than one of many trod and plod coaching styles who do nothing offensively. With UT's facilities and budget they could go out and get a big time coach. But I don't thing the UTAD has the mentality to do it.

It is good for your coach to be considered for another job. He must be doing something right for the program.

I don't think anyone can argue he did way more with this group than anyone expected heading into the season.

That got him noticed.

UT wouldn't be in bad shape if he left from the sense that they couldn't get another coach on the same level, but there's something to be said for continuity. We'd likely see another roster purge which would set the program back again.

I hope he stays at least two more seasons.

If we could have gotten a better coach, we would have. The other guys we were looking at would have taken the salaries we offered in a heartbeat if UT weren't so screwed from Bruce.

Definitely merit in this argument. I would also add that working for Mike Hamilton was probably also perceived as a negative. Or to put it another way, working for Dave Hart is a positive.

You are missing my point. I am not asking what UT could have done last year. When I say UT could have, I am saying 'could' in light of the fact that Cuonzo has squashed the rumor. If Cuonzo had left UT for Illinois, they 'could have' hired a more qualfied coach. That is why I followed that up by clarifying the difference in the UT job today versus when CCM was hired. At that time, Hamilton was AD. The school was under the NCAA black cloud. Pearl would be a tough act to follow. Now, all of those factors are totally resolved. No black cloud, no Hammy, and no big personality coach to follow.
Given these facts, could UT (today)hire someone more qualified than Cuonzo? Heck yes they could. Could they a year ago? Unlikely.

Through the grapevine, I've heard that Cuonzo is actually considering Illinois in part due to some personal issues. Illinois and Purdue are the only jobs he would leave for.

The grapevine also informed me that he was furious with the team's complacency before the MTSU game. He said they seemed like they'd rather be on Spring Break than in the NIT

Take it with a grain of salt.

So Illinois is going to pay his $2.6 million buyout plus a salary with them?

Yes a good experienced coach like Kruger or Turgeon who could have brought their recruiting class with them.
How'd that work out?

The grapevine has to be legit if he was able to break the news found in your second paragraph. Most coaches are pumped after a bad loss. Your source did nothing more than add personal opinion to a bogus story that broke last night.

Irresponsible journalism-------->billy down the street states " where there is smoke there must be fire"----------> alphavol1998 jumps on message board and claims sources(billy) are giving him the same info--------->pandemonium on volnation.

So had I left out the second paragraph would it have changed anything? The spring break comment was something he actually said per the source. You can choose not to believe it, but your reasoning for doing so is flawed.

I will give you that your source brought the thunder with the "personal issues" bit. That phrase generally accompanies legitimate information.
