Martin should do the right thing

I disagree with you 100% did you even bother to watch the game? if so you would have seen all of the layups that jerone maybin missed, you would have seen all of the foul shorts that we missed, you would seen all of the nocalls that the refs missed when our vols were on offense, yet we lost by only 9pts to a so call top ten team in the country, Wichitard State is clearly inferior to Tennessee, had that game been played in knoxvegas, they would have surely got their @rse beat. ps bp is not coming back, so get over it

Not that it matters, but I did watch the game. My comment was not a 1 game observation.

Properly coached, maybe Maybin learns how to make a layup. Properly coached, foul shots should be 2nd nature. Referee calls are just another excuse for losing. Thinking that a 9 point loss is a moral victory shows how far the program is falling from one week to the next. At the end of the year, it is W's and L's. There is no column for "moral victory."

You might want to consider the 'Bama chat site. They don't recognize the difference in commas and periods either.

When do you expect the coach to work on something as fundamental as layups and free throws? He's out recruiting, game planning, implementing the game plan in practice, scouting, public appearances, radio shows for you schmucks that must know EVERYTHING that goes on, etc. He gets what, two hours of practice with the team a day? Layups and foul shots are the priority of the players to get in the gym and work on THEIR time, not waste valuable practice time that can be used to plan for upcoming opponents.

He should announce his resignation. He is the Derek Dooley of UT basketball. He came in during a tumultuous turn in coaching and has managed to do nothing to improve the situation. Fish or cut bait. If he won't take a knee, push him out! Develop a plan to replace him that is built on action rather than reaction. Hamilton is gone. It is time for an athletic director to direct.

Are you on acid?

Its not JUST about losing to WSU on the road. Its the Xavier loss and the Utep loss along with it. Its the fact that in we did not look well coached in any of those games. Martins offense looked downright stupid. He never made any adjustments. We didn't start pressing against WSU until we were down 10 and it didn't even matter. We have a ton of length and size but Martin refuses to play a zone. Why? Game after game our team lools dumbfounded when teams come out in a 2-3 zone. Why? can he not at least google how to beat a zone?

All of that combined with the fact we haven't been to the tournament in 2 years and we've had some AWFUL NIT performances. We will likely miss the tournament again. The good resume building games are over and we lost. Beating UF last year got us nowhere and if you think Martin can go in to Rupp and win you havent been watching the past few years.

I was excited about this talent. We have the talent for a deep tournament run but it looks like we will be watching from home again.
So there I laid it out for everyone who says "well its just one loss"

What if he gets to the play in games and wins one against some podunk hollow university team and then loses to the #1 seed in that region? Keep him 3 or 4 more years? The guy can't coach, simple as that. Let him go at the end of the season.

I don't think that he can't coach, I just don't like his coaching style. He wants the game to be ugly and all about defense. Honestly I would rather see him gone at the end of the year, but if he makes the tournament he will be here for at least another year or two.

Cuonzo Martin recruits athletes and not basketball players. His philosophy is get the biggest most athletic guys you can and try to make them basketball players. So you are gonna see a lot of ugly basketball as long as he is coach. Give me a guy that is 6-3 and can play offensively ( j. Smith c. Lofton) over a 6-6 athlete( j. Richardson, a. Moore) who can't shoot dribble, or pass, but plays good defense. I am not saying this style can not work, but I'm saying that it sucks to watch it from a fans perspective. Especially after watching pearls brand of basketball.

Unlike the rest of you people, I learned my lesson with Fulmer. I will never ask for another coaching change...ever. That being said, I think we will kick ourselves for years to come with the amount of talent this team has and the lack of production. We are going back to the stone age after this season. It's not going to get better.

But as disappointed as fans are right now, making a midseason coaching change or CCM stepping down right now would possibly lose all current commits and guarantee your prediction to come true. IMO

So he should abandon the team and the season 1/3 of the way through? What a terrible idea.

He should go after Swiperboy's, Hall's, Tatums's, McBee's, is that what you are saying?

I can definitely understand the exasperation with Tennessee sports. Tennessee has no leadership from the highest levels on down-just a bunch of bureaucrats. A thorough house cleaning is in order. You can call for Martin to resign but from a financial standpoint no sane coach is going to do that. Just because he's a terrible basketball coach doesn't make him insane.

Tell me there sunshine pumper, what is so stupid about his post?? He's just a realist and is telling you like it is! How you la de da, lackadaisical fans keep accepting mediocrity is beyond me.

If you don't understand why it was a stupid post, then no explanation is going to help because it's likely too logical for your brain to handle.

Its not a stupid post it is an unrealistic post born out of exasperation with the athletic department and administration over there.

No, it's stupid. No coach is going to resign in a 6-3 season after a loss like that, and if he did, he might as well change professions because he'd never get a job again.

You can call it an emotional, knee-jerk post, but that doesn't excuse it from being stupid.

You have to wonder how exasperated North Carolina is with Roy Williams. They try for years to get him from Kansas and then Kansas hires Bill Self who is a better coach and Carolina did well for a few years under Williams but has since fallen from their historic standards.

Also, do you people remember when y'all lost your damn mind when our mediocre football coach left the team at the end of a season? Y'all acted as though he just punched your mother and kicked your dog. How would this be a better situation to have our mediocre basketball coach leave in the MIDDLE of the season?
