I'm not at all happy with the way this team has performed. Were below 500 after playing a lot of cupcakes and 3 good teams Duke, Memphis and Pitt.

"Something funny to say. something funny to say"...Oh yea go F^$& yourself, and get off Volnation or at least make sound arguements. Sick of comin up on your BS in forums.

I think this teams record is about what most people expected at this point. What impresses me the most is how they play hard and have been able to score (except in the Pitt game). Biggest weakness so far is rebounding. If not for giving up 18 second chance points to Pitt, they win on Sat. No excuse for that. I think Martin will be very successful here as long as he lands some big time recruits, like Stokes!

Finally some sanity. Sound points. Thank you.

Martin will get 5 years just like Houston. Then TN will hire another division 2 coach just like they did this time. It took 40 years for Tennessee to hire a real coach. I expect I will be dead before we see another winner at TN. Thats why I gave up my season tickets that I have had for 40 years.

OMG,,,Doom and Gloom....I'll take those season tickets if you really don't want them..NUMEROUS folks in the coaching fraternity and those who cover SEC and UT Basketball are still very surprised UT was able to land him at this stage of his career..I don't make the decisions and wouldn't want too..But those who continue to denigrate, badmouth and talk smack about CCM, don't try to jump on the bandwagon, just watch from a distance while the Vol Men run off a bunch of wins and clinch a NCAA Tournament bid...JMHO

I think there is more talent on the team than most people think. He is doing an adequate job but I laugh at all the comments about the great job he is doing. Most of them by fans who are so badly hoping he exceeds the success of the previous coach that they praise and jump up and down every time Coach Martin scratches his rear end.

I 100% support Coach Martin and hope he proves on the court that he was the right choice for the job. Wins and Losses is all that matters.

ultimately I see your point. I just think it's very difficult to say "we hung with duke and memphis and pitt! coach zo is amazing!", this early, just like it's very hard to say "we lost to oakland! coach zo's a$$ is grass!" it's just too early to evaluate the job he's done.

by not top notch talent, I mean that I don't expect to have 1-and-dones under martin. not for at least a few years. this team is a work in progress. just gotta hope there's enough progress to make the NCAA tourney.

The fact that you can't even respond shows how much you know about UT basketball. Just another example of the University of Pearl crowd.

Well lets see what Tenneesee basketball has accomplished over the last 6 years.

One Elite 8 (Schools first ever)
Three Sweet 16s (Never has been accomplished by a Tennessee coach)
6 straight NCAA tournament appearances (every year he was Tennessee's head coach)
One SEC Title
One Preseason NIT title
Schools first ever number one ranking in basketball

He had two teams that very easily could have won the NCAA tournament. In one of those years Tennessee beat the National champion twice (once at home and once on the road);

Pearl won starting on day one. There were no excuses or crybabying about "I don't have any players". He won with Buzz's players (who could not win with them) and he won with the players he recruited.

He also made the school and the state of Tennessee millions of dollars through increased ticket sales. He has been and still is very active in the community through his charity work. That is some sorry trash we are talking about.

I agree that what he did was pure dumbass and as a result embarrassed the school and its fans. He has paid a heavy price in losing his livelihood. He has not wined or cried about it as I am almost sure most of us would if treated the same way. His positives far outweighed the negatives.

I have concerns about this team and this coach. He is unproven so that is a lot of it. It is early, but I think he has enough talent to win with. The league is weak this year. If he can hold serve at home from here on out(won't be easy by any stretch) Tennessee will make the tourney.

I had earlier stated that I am concerned because I do not think this team has performed well. Just an opinion that is different from yours. This team's problem is not offense, which I think suprised all of us. It is defense. However, I believe if they can improve their rebounding and create some turnovers they can be good enough on defense to win. These are correctible items and rely on effort and coaching.

Martin should and will get time to succeed. He has followed a great basketball coach who has created high expectations as all great coachs do. That means (right or wrong) a lack of patience from the fans.

I guess I do have my head up Pearl's ass because he was a winner and I want my team to win.

I hope in 6 years I have my head up Martin's ass because he is a winner and I want my team to win. I hope its better, but in my opionio if his record is half as good as Pearl's, I think that would be great and he will have done a great job.

I think we can all agree that we love Tennessee and want them to succeed. We can agree to disagree and have fun debating about it. We all get excited when they win and feel like kicking the dog when they lose. But dude, ease up on the venom. That is some out of control stuff.

Coach Pearl did some good things for us. To trash him isn't fair for coach pearl. At the same time, he broke the rules (and then lied about it), and it's fair to say that his last season at UT was a mess.

I think it actually turned out better than I thought it would. No NCAA sanctions so Tennessee is not in any way handicapped. Also as fans I think we all knew you could win at Tennessee, but now it has now been proven that you can win at basketball at Tennessee. This has got to help recruiting for a while at least.

actually it is still feeling the effects of being attached to Pearl's lying. The roster he left was very thin and they didn't seem to know how to work hard. Also, it was proven before Pearl that winning is possible (even with an AD intent on turning it into a club sport)

The program is in better shape now than before he arrived. I didn't think that would be the case last year, but it is.

Agree. I figured he would be a good leader but wasn't sure about some of the guys he brought in to fill spots. They may end up proving me wrong

What is it you call winning? We have a total of 16 wins in the NCAA tournament. Eight of them belong to Pearl.

Jerry Green took the team to 4 straight NCAA's, sweet 16 (could have been elite 8 if he had a clue) and won a conf title. If he can do it then the proof that a coach can win at UT seems pretty obvious. Unfortunately the AD never supported the sport or even knew how

Yes, we've never done the Bruce Pearl accomplishment argument before. As for having two teams that could have won it all, that's pretty hilarious. The year he got us to #1 for a couple of hours he was raped in the NCAA tournament by Louisville and just barely got to the Sweet 16.

So, like I said, Jerry Green made 4 straight NCAA tournaments (every year he was there.) He won an SEC title. He made a Sweet 16. He had us to #4 in the country. He won the East more than once. So, again, why aren't you deifying Green? Oh that's right, he didn't paint his chest. That's the qualifications to reach God-like status with some of our fans.

The bottom line on Pearl is this: he was better than Green; I'm not disputing that. He was successful here. Was he a "great coach?" No. He was a good coach.

Bruce Pearl was one of the top ten coaches in college basketball during his time here.....I'm not sure if that qualifies him as great or not

I agree with your assessment of the team beaten by Louisville. That was not a championship team. The team that could have won it was the one beaten by Ohio State in the sweet sixteen. It is my opinion this was Pearl's best team. The refs did a job on them in that game. I think the bracket opened up nicely for them. I believe Tennessee would been in the same bracket as Florida and Memphis which they had already beaten earlier in the year. Those games were not gimmes, but Tennessee would not have been overmatched. I also think the Elite 8 could have won it as well.
