Martin wants an extension and am sure a raise (rumor)

It's called market value. If that's what SEC coaches are being paid Martin deserves to be ahead of Barbee...if you feel differently provide facts not just a "both guys are overpaid" statement.

Don't blame me for Martin's inability to work out contracts when compared to other SEC coaches. If he thinks he has leverage against the powers that be at UT right now then more power to him. I just happen to disagree with them.

I hope Coach Martin leave and win a championship somewhere else because some not all of the fans will always compare him wirh Pearl.Yes he won alot of games but he is the reason why we almost got hammered with sanctions too.

This can be worked to UT's advantage too.

If I remember correctly, Foley at FL renegotiated Muschamp's deal prior to last season. Muschamp went 7-6 in his first year and nobody was impressed with him yet he got a better contract after that same year.

In year 2, they have a really good season and when it comes contract time when muschamp would be asking for a raise, Foley can say "I already believed in you and showed you that when we redid your contract 9 months ago. This past season was what I knew you could do."

I may be "mis-remembering" this. Maybe someone can back me up on it.

Btw I didn't say anyone was overpaid. I said neither deserve a raise or extension.

Never understood the Martin hate on here. I don't think he should get a raise or extension, but we could've been a top 25 team this year if Maymonn wasn't out for the whole year. CCM did the best he could with what he had this year. We started slow and Stokes had to adjust to being the main guy down low getting all of the double teams. If McRae and Stokes both come back with Hubbs, Davis, and company coming in, we'll be very tough to beat. Cuonzo knows what he's doing and the players believe in his system. I think our two biggest problems are not having consistent shooters and free throws. Hopefully Hubbs can take care of one or both. I don't know how one team can be so bad a free throw shooting year in year out. If you make your free throws, you'll win your fair share of games and with how many close games we played this year that may have been the difference maker.

Sorry for the semi-long post. Just had to get that off my chest.

But, despite that, you think that he should be paid that low in the conference when being compared to other teams in that same conference? How does that make sense?

If a team is not satisfied with expectations put forth in a contract the coach should be fired. Martin is meeting the expectations he agreed to in his contract an therefore he gets another year. That's how it makes sense.

What would a 3 year post season ban even matter if we aren't going to make the NCAA tournament anyways? Just sayin...

What Barbee makes is irrelevant. UT should not overpay an average coach just because another SEC team does. When we make the big dance then he can ask.

I think he will be fine but he's not there yet, prove it first.

Should CCM make more than a college bball coach with this record:

331 and 152

9 NCAA appearances out of 15 years as a head coach

7 conference titles.

or a coach with this record:

204 and 123

5 NCAA appearances out of 10 years as a head coach.

or this coach:

463 and 235

7 NCAA appearances out of 18 years as head coach of AA eligible team

4 conference titles.

Fans need to come to the realization that barring a catostrophic failure next season Martin likely isn't getting fired.

Personally, I think if he makes the tourney, which he likely will, he will get a raise and extension especially if he doesn't this offseason. Then in 2014 the roster will be blown up and we will have a young team with lowered expectations for that season.

Him getting an extension this year is small potatoes in the big picture. Personally, I feel like the guy is getting at least 4 years and likely 5 or more if he continues to show improvements and progress on the court and recruiting.

Personally, I say extend his contract now while he doesn't have a lot of negotiating power. He's likely going to be here a few more years at minimum.

IMO, I think our fans are failing to realize that Martin isn't a bad enough coach to get fired after 3 or 4 seasons. Is he the next elite coach? Maybe not. But he's not the Derek Dooley of basketball. The guy has shown he can win, he just needs to do it over an entire season to solidify that he can win big.

My initial response is no.

This is a test to see if Hart has the spine of jellyfish like the previous ad and if we will piss away more money and years like we have done in the past.

What top players would have came here to play and we wouldn't have won 10 games with towel boys and managers. He would be fired anyway
Yep, just like we got killed by #1 Kansas when we had all those players suspended...oh wait. Dude can coach
