Marvel's Black Panther

So there is nothing outlandish about making the argument that if not for the slave trade and colonialism crippling Africa for the last 500 years, that Africa would once again have the most developed and advanced nations on Earth.

And yet those african nations were easily conquered by the Europeans.

Powerful. Developed. Advanced. LMAOOOOO...

Sh!tholes.

I can’t wait for the Mexican superhero, I’m gonna go watch it with my friend Humberto.

(1) What race are you?

(2) Even with as much whitewashing as there has been of history, as recently as 1400 AD, the richest nation on Earth was an African country (Mali Empire) which had at the time the most sophisticated institutions of higher learning in the world at Timbuktu.

(3) And if we go back 4,000 years, the only advanced nations on Earth were African (i.e. Egypt and Nubia). While Europeans were living in caves, black Africans were building the pyramids (in Egypt and Nubia).

So there is nothing outlandish about making the argument that if not for the slave trade and colonialism crippling Africa for the last 500 years, that Africa would once again have the most developed and advanced nations on Earth.

So the wealthy and smart Africans let themselves get invaded by dumb cavemen from Europe? Please, give me a break

What on Earth are you talking about? White culture is what we live and breathe everyday of our lives here in America. The reason black people are wearing Dashikis to the movie is because our history and culture has been ripped away from us and we've been forced to adopt white European culture.

For example, why do you think suits are considered the choice of clothing when doing business globally? That's not something native to Africa or Asia. That's a European tradition that has become global culture because of the spread of white supremacy.

Bruh. White culture is so pervasive its not even considered white culture. It's so deeply ingrained globally that we just look at it as the default.

ok. agree.

Europeans defined social and cultural norms.

This has a chance to be a really good movie. Hope it pans out. Sad that race is even a factor, just saying.

While I think this is nauseatingly overused, how is a black American wearing a dashiki not (I’m sorry people) cultural appropriation? I don’t get to wear kilts and sh** because I’m of Irish heritage. That’s not my culture. And honestly it’s not yours being a black American either.

You can wear a kilt. It just makes you look like a goofball.

I’m just saying, to get mad at people for not letting you wear a dashiki is coming from the same people mad at Justin Timberlake for “appropriating their music”.

Don’t be hypocritical, and it’s not your culture.

But skin color is same! Color is culture!

Black Panther was written by two white guys .... so it’s basically culture Appropriation ... isn’t that the word everyone likes to throw around when white people dress or do things from other cultures .

Yes, you can. There are tons of people in the US that celebrate their families' heritage. I'm Scots-Irish, and I don't wear any of the traditional gear but I do have a Scottish flag at my desk and my family crest has the Scottish flag in it. And I've been to the Highland Games and tons of people there are America yet wear traditional Scottish/Irish gear and several will wear it for things like weddings and funerals.

Yet people flock to it like its non-fiction.

I guess that is an indictment of how desperate some folks are for something positive in their lives.

What does this even mean? What works of non-fiction are blockbusters on this level?

Your nightly 12 pack of natty light is an indictment.

Unless you’re atheist, Passion of the Christ fetched a few bucks in that category. :hmm:
