Mass shootings in Maine

If you're not prepared to support a permanent ban on assault rifles, for starters then you can't be taken seriously on this issue.
Mass shootings are a uniquely American problem--and it's not because we have more mentally troubled people than other countries.
It's because we make it very easy to buy dangerous weapons.
I'm sorry, but bans on firearms of any type are a pipe dream. 3D printing wipes all that out, and it's just going to get better. Prohibition worked really good in the 20's and 30's! How's that war on drugs going??? Get your head out of your azz.

I'm talking about mass shootings. Not gang crimes and murder suicides. Mass killings that have happened at schools, movie theaters, night clubs, grocery stores, bowling alleys, Vegas strip, etc. Those were not pistols. I know Va Tech was but that's like 1 out of about 30.
And if you could wave your wand, and make the most popular rifle in America disappear?

Is it your assertion that the shootings at schools, theaters, and bowling alleys would cease?

So the thread on the latest mass killing has turned in to a "gun guy" circle jerk....microcosm of what the problem is.
No, actually, I was trying to have a civil conversation and see if we could find some common ground. Would you like to participate?

Answer my very simple question. Once again, without using the words "assault rifle" or "AR15," what legislation do you propose?

Be specific.

Yeah, I didn't consider it your typical mass shooting but it was the only time I could recall full auto weapons being used in a similar way.
I thought the full autos used by the robbers were illegally modified, so according to logic used by the left, they really didn’t exist because they were banned. I cannot believe bank robbers illegally modified guns to be fully automatic with it being against the law.

Says the guy who doesn’t know what an assault rifle is.

How many on the left are going to come into these threads thinking we have “automatic weapons” on the streets, before they start to question their media choices?

Law enforcement and The National Gaurd had enough info to stop this from happening.
That's incredibly disappointing. Laws were in place to prevent this and our awesome .gov failed the People.

Thus the only obvious solution is more infringement on all citizen’s constitutional rights… all because the government is incompetent. And if you actually think about it this is what the morons in government and their useful idiots believe.

Yes, we want to infringe on the rights of goobers who want to play sheriff-wannabe with their guns so that we can better protect the American people from gun massacres. Exactly.

We have a country with a ton of people with mental health issues and incredibly easy access to guns. It's why we have so many gun massacres. People are tired of all the cheap, stupid excuse-making from rubes who have nothing better to do than play with guns. "Well, what about cars and pillows--you can kill people with those, too." "Guns don't kill people, people do." "Do you even know how an assault rifle works."

Please. You're all irresponsible fools--and GOP politicians are a pathetic bunch. We've got a major political party that's been taken over by low IQ rednecks and christian crazies.

Lock up all the people with mental illness, problem solved.

Yep so now they must punish the law abiding for their failures.

You do realize that every assault-rifle mass murderer we have was a "law-abiding citizen" and "responsible gun owner" up until the moment
he decided to start shooting? You ought to think about that.

You looking stupid isn't good, but recitivistic stupid is even worse. From the last time you tried this trite assertion.

Ignoring everything else you posit (which far more often than not is the right call) you know in the transitive that applies to everything, right? Every rapist for instance wasn't a rapist until they were. It's an absurd argument to make reserved for the dumbest of hoplophobes.

Said that from the get go. This tragedy is on LE & Army Reserves. His house should have been cleared out, and all his accesses to weapons locked away.

You make one post where you allude to it not being related to mental illness, then in the next post you declare that it is. You're all over the map on this, yet decide to call everyone else names.

See I have a problem with that. If the guy is a danger then he should have been locked up for a mental evaluation but without being placed into custody a person shouldn't loose their rights and have their property confiscated.

I'm ok if it's temporary. There should be a path to re-gain those rights.

Red flag laws. The Maine shooter was denied trying to purchase a silencer because he checked the box saying he had been in a mental institution. Checking the box should also disqualify one from purchasing the actual gun but ya know.....muh freedums

I look at like asset seizure, when the cops seize your cash simply because they suspect it's from drug activity. It takes a long time and a lot of your money to get it back, I don't see how red flag laws would be any different. Not to mention how easily it can be abused.
