Mass shootings in Maine

Maine has yellow flag laws that weren't properly enforced.

The clear story that is emerging is that all the laws and government systems that should have stopped this guy were NOT correctly implemented and your solutions is...We NeEd MoRe LaWs!

Maines "yellow flag" law was dog sh*t. Even had it worked as advertised, there was no mechanism to remove the murderers' firearms without a medical diagnosis (not required by a red flag law state) and then only after a judges order.

The "law" created the illusion of doing something about 'gun violence' without actually doing anything at all.

Colin Noir here points out how the ball was dropped here, by government. It's been pointed out that Maine doesn't have Red Flag law but does have a Yellow Flag law. The difference being a higher standard for removing one's guns. It should have been a means to have prevented this.

That's 100% false. He was committed to a facility for a mental evaluation and then nothing happened. They did do some followup but couldn't locate him. The yellow flag law should have worked but they didn't follow through.

Also, there should be high standard before one's rights are taken away. Having a judge rule on it is not all that high of a standard.

It's not false, it's how the yellow flag law works.

complaint ----> custody -------> medical diagnosis ---> judges order

What is your "high standard", crazy on a 1-10 scale? Who gets to decide? Where is the line drawn, one professional opinion? 3? 10?

Your "high" standard is purely subjective. Is anything that falls below your standard an infringement on your rights?

Red flag laws only require a disgruntled neighbor to be mad that your crepe myrtle had some leaves blow over on there lawn to call and say your unstable for them to come and take your guns. I'm sure you're so lovable that no one would take advantage of that but for someone that hires and fires, I can guarantee you that given the opportunity people will take advantage. It happens now, every day with couples splitting up.

The system was in place to stop this dude with a yellow flag law and your government failed.

I think it should have to go before a judge before your rights are violated but I'm sure that's not China-like enough for you.

The only difference between a yellow flag law and red flag law is the requirement for the medical diagnosis by a medical professional.

I'm not sure why you're so bent out of shape and blaming "my government" and suggesting it's not "china-like" enough for me.

I simply pointed out the facts, stop whining like a little bitch. I never made any comment on whether I approved of the law or not.

You getting all emotional isn't going to change that, ma'am.

Then what "compromise" do you propose?

What? Just like ALL gun "laws"? or really all laws in general?

just because murders still happen we don't pretend that the homicide laws are an illusion.

Word to the wise, criminal are always going to break the laws. the laws are always an illusion of safety that only keep the law-abiding behind the illusion. its no different with gun laws.

Lol, you're the one that came at me. I'm not bent out of shape. I suggest you go look at your response to my post to see who got snarkey. Sounds like you can be an ass but when someone is an ass back in response gets your panties all twisted up.

Why do you keep assuming that I'm anti-gun? I'm not.

That's part of why you look like an angry Karen, lashing out at anyone who isn't circling the wagons.

I generally agree that more laws won't fix the problem. Common sense laws that say if a guy literally threatens to shoot up sh*t, should have his access to guns restricted without further delay until he or she can be professionally evaluated is common sense.

Septic just likes to b!tch and then turn around and act all holier than thou when he's called to the mat, he seldom offers an actual idea.

You haven't called anyone to the mat ever. It's easier to look 'holier than though' in comparison to you, you don't stand for much.

I stand for less government and individual rights/liberties. If you haven't noticed that then you're dumber than you portray yourself here.

Nobody should have their rights or property taken away from them without due process and that's why red flag laws are an abomination.

LOL, you really ought to look into what libertarians stand for before jump on board and denigrating them. Based on your signaled virtue about less government and more individual rights, you sound like you could be the poster child.

Are you suggesting your right to property outweighs someone else's right to life?

Do you consider yourself a libertarian? (Big L or small L?) If so that is laughable and delusional. And no I don't consider myself a (L)libertarian, I can't meet their whining and "ain't my fault excuse" quota.

My right to property has zero to do with someone else's right to life until I use my property to take their life.

I'd label myself as a moderate, I'm unconcerned with what you would consider me.

I'd also disagree with your not being able to meet the libertarians' "whiney" needs, whatever those are - you seem to have plenty of that.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious, except Robert Card made threats to shoot people - I disagree that his right to property outweighed other people's right to life at that moment.

Then the officials in Maine should have done their damn jobs and followed existing laws to remove his firearms.

How would you feel if FL had red flag laws regarding speeding? Neighbor Karen complains to authorities over that self absorbed Septic speeding through the neighborhood endangering lives so they come take your car.

Your strawman speeding argument is cartoonishly dumb, take a lap.

Additionally, you seem to be suffering from a bit of cognitive dissonance. You hold that fed flag laws are an "abomination" and also lean on "officials in Maine should have removed his firearms."

Do you bitch just to bitch?

So do you think Maine's yellow flag law, if enforced, wouldn't have prevented this?

I'm sorry that you cannot see the differences between red flag laws and yellow flag laws. With yellow flag laws you are at least afforded a modicum of due process prior to your property and rights being taken away, with red flag laws you receive no due process until after the fact and the .gov can drag out the process of recovering your property for years.
