Maymon out indefinitely...

Think he already used his red shirt year as a transfer.

Just throwing this out there for discussion, not necessarily my opinion, just a discussion point...

If its January and Maymon is just now coming around to be able to play...do you play him, or redshirt him and bring him back next year? Does it depend on current record?

Seems quick answer is bring him back, he makes you better and you should still be a tourney team...

But...adding him to next years roster could honestly be a national championship quality team.

Just curious on everyone's thoughts.

Cuonzo Martin values the the first month of the season about as much as an NFL coach values the preseason. It's all about developing the younger people. He'll let Maymon wait until conference play without hesitation, if he really needs to.

So you think CCM doesn't think the OOC schedule doesn't mean anything? Really?

Not as much as most are making it out to be. You don't think Martin didn't use some of those lousy, non defensive performances as a teaching tool last season? Even the players admitted that it made them buy into the team aspect and to lock down on the defensive end.

I think CCM will be playing to position this team for a good seeding in the NCAA tourney. That means non conference wins. I really don't think he will burn these games for any kind of teaching tool this year. I would expect there not to be any issues what so ever in buying into his system, work ethic, defense, etc....

He'll experiment with some stuff. I'm not saying he'll tank games, but he will sacrifice to make sure this team is peaking by the time February rolls around.

I think there will be some issues with CCM if he doesn't know his team and player's ability with having virtually close to the same team as last year. There should be very little experimenting especially with an pre season trip in Italy.

He lost a year of eligibility when he transferred. Has nothing to do with his option to redshirt.

I have always been under the impression the transfer year is your red shirt year. Don't think he lost any eligibility. He left Marquette as a freshman, sat out a year and next played as a soph.

He left Marquette half way through his Freshman year. Transferred to UT. Sat out half his Soph. year. That's one year he sat out.

Get him back in the line up in time for the January run and we're good. May even do pretty well without him. Why is the sky falling over here too?

I also read that the he's currently only slated to miss the opener, but I assume some are suggesting the injury may require more time to heal. That is troubling because, not only will Maymon be coming back at >100%, his conditioning down the stretch will be behind other SEC posts. If he has to miss more than 8-10 games, I think his role will be diminished for the rest of the season. Oh well, it's time for Jarnell to step it up!

This. I think some posters are picking out caskets for him.

I'm willing to bet he misses more than a game. If he's likely out for the opener because of injury, how long is it before he can be full go in practice. Then from that point how long until he is in playing condition, because Martin says as of now he couldn't play a game. Well his conditioning is only going to get worse, so now that becomes a concern, when can he start conditioning to get into shape.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's only one game, but as many have said the writing was on the wall...it isn't looking good, unfortunately may be a nagging injury for maymon.

Losing Maymon hurts more on offense than anything. Yemi and Hall could provide better defense. If McRae has the type of season we need, Golden and Stokes will have help carrying the load. We will be fine.

At least the team has had the opportunity to practice without him now for a pretty extended period of time. This won't be as big of a shake up as if it happened mid-season

I can feel for all of yall Vols (and should be most of CBB fans). These news are a fact of the game. I feel terrible for this young man, I dont know him or much about him, but he seems like a quality player and young man. Only thing I can say, I pretty much gave up on my Mizzou Tigers when our best player and damn near only big man Lawrence Bowers losing out on the entire season. Somethings happen like this and Win Loss column is not the end all be all (to some maybe) We were picked to finish 5th in the Big 12 WITH Laurence Bowers. We persevered (not easily I tell you). If Martin is a good coach, like y'all say, he can find a way to make things happen. You have the tools around the program to do this too. My DI in the Marines always stressed "the best success is achieved from overcoming dificulties. and my basketball coach always said "A talented player can win games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships." I'm praying for him to make a full recovery.
