Maymon Story GoVolsExtra!

No idea. Why did kids who obviously didn't respect Pearl sign here?
Look how well things turned out with those guys. Why would Maymon be any different? A knucklehead doesn't quit being a knucklehead simply because he changes uniforms.

Tell that to Bobby Maze.

Give the kid a chance before you start downing him.

Smokeybluetick is saying he isn't the one claiming Maymon is a thicker Tyler Smith. Chism is. Smokeybluetick was just relaying the message.

I understand that - but still doesn't change the fact that he is the OP and he is denying being it.

Bobby Maze wore out his welcome at OU in large part because he refused to play defense. It's not like he was UT's version of Gary Payton while he was here. I think Byron Eaton just blew by him again while I was typing this response.

Why? I'm not his coach. I don't owe him a clean slate. When a guy is more concerned about playing the position he wants than he is sacrificing for the team and doing what the coach asks of him at a previous stop, I'll assume he's bad news til he proves otherwise.

Hat why are you hedging now and making it about attitude? I brought up maymon a long time ago and you said he was fat and would not contribute. Go ahead and own your player evaluation that was so spot on about jp prince.

I think the reason Pearl took another risk with Maymon is because it was obvious that no other 4 or 5 star prospects were going to sign in the 2010 class because single mothers, parents that didn't like their kid's potential college coaches to coach at summer game events, and players from the state of Illinois were NEVER going to sign with the Vols...

It's a full-blown conspiracy....

hat, you're starting to sound like the "ESPN hates UT" people with all your nonsensical bar room floor theories, bolstered by paranoia and some unnamed slight that seems to have seared your soul. There's a bottle of scotch at the Brewery with your name on it. boo hoo...

He wasn't dominant, but he was much better than someone who was "a waste of a scholarship by tanning bed."

He was more than an adequate backup and will be a good, reliable player this year, especially on the defensive end.

I view Maymon the same way I viewed Goins last year when we signed him. He's a short term(2.5 years instead of 2) gap filler who the coaching staff obviously feels can play a role on the team. He may not be an elite player, but if he can take Stevie's minutes and be productive next year that is worth the scholarship, and he is a guy with a lot of talent if he matures over the course of his time here.

I don't understand the gnashing of teeth over a guy who will be nothing more than a rotational player unless he earns it. Maybe he develops into an above average college forward and provides some veteran toughness in a couple of years on a team that will desperately need it. Either way it's not the worst way to spend a scholarship, and we'll have a much better evaluation on him after the PRTL.

This season was considered the most successful season in UT history. It wouldn't have happened without him.
