If it makes you feel better to label me an Obama supporter go right ahead. This will be the first election where I may actually hold my nose and vote democrat. If I didn't mind wasting a vote I might go ahead and write-in the ticket I want.
$10 Billion per month we can't afford. No WMD's. No Al Qaeda (at least before we got there). Sectarian violence. Still no political reconciliation. Over-extending the military from the fight in Afghanistan. Wasteful government crony contracts. Oil at all-time highs. Out sourcing military operations to mercenaries (i.e. Blackwater)....need I go on? What exactly made this a good idea?
Cutting taxes is a bad idea? We are running ridiculous deficits. If one counts the cost of the Iraq war the deficit this year approaches $1 Trillion. Obviously focusing on the top 1% isn't working like the Bush administration hoped. I'm all for cutting taxes, but in a responsible manner. Call them the tax and spend democrats all you want, but the republicans are the borrow and spend. You want a devastating argument to the McCain/Bush tax policy you seem to love?
Combined debt incurred under all presidents before Clinton: $900 Billion
Debt incurred under Clinton: $900 Billion
Debt incurred under Bush Jr.: $8.8 Trillion
You have examples of the diplomatic skills of any of the candidates currently running? Biden is sitting on the foreign relations committee and Palin lives next to Russia. All we know for sure is McCain has said he wants to continue the Bush Jr. philosophy. How well has that worked out the last 8 years?
Guns and oil. That about sums it up, doesn't it?
rjd970,
Not sure what your goal is here... Are you trying to win an argument or win an election b/c if it's the latter, I'd forget about Sarah Palin if I were you. Nobody cares. People like her -- whether she's qualified or not. Same goes for Barack Obama.[/QUOTE]
That's the problem. George Bush based his campaign on the "Who would you like to have a beer with" mantra. This popularity crap makes me sick. The Obama crowd is just a guilty, it's just that this Palin phenomenon is starting to get ridiculous with the ebay plane, lipstick jokes, and living next to Russia.
Maybe I am an idealist, but I think actual issues are the most important thing. Rush Limbaugh has characterized Palin as "Guns, Babies, and Jesus". I think that is an apt description of what we know about her. Who care's? At least Obama, for all his faults, is making an attempt at saying something substantive. I can give McCain credit here too, but it would be nice for him to actually explain why we should believe his past record over what he is actually saying in this campaign.
Your main problem is that you cannot accept the fact that politicians are whores.........
The only difference is the whore is not going to lie about taking your money.
That's your own personal assumption. He could have completely solidified the democratic base, which was heavily split between the two, with a nomination of Hillary. So why didn't he act like a cookie cutter candidate and get the secure VP like McCain did?
At the least???????????? You are out of your mind. Therein lies the problem with most of the republicans on these message boards....you actually believe this to be true and you are totally wrong.
The correct statement would be Obama is at least as qualified as Palin...but intelligence will tell us he is much more qualified. Since when did graduating at the top of your class at Harvard Law not make you more qualified than someone attaining a degree from Idaho???
Whether you like it or not, graduating from an Ivy League university makes you more qualified than if you graduated from most state universities...from an education standpoint.
So here is what I am reading in this thread....
- If you don't buy into every single thing republicans are saying or find a single good thing about Obama then you are labled a neo-socialist and closet Obama supporter.
- Palin represents a better pick on foreign policy and executive experience than both Romney and Guilani. The political advantage of this person's gender is a bonus...she was qualified from the outset.
- Obama's education at Colombia and Harvard pale in comparison to McCain's bottom finish at the Naval Academy and Palin's degree from Idaho. What really matters is her stint as mayor and govenor and McCain's established 27 years in the senate.
- Executive experience only matters for VP's.
- Guns and oil are "good enough" for a VP's record.
- McCain and Palin's....(gasp!)....flip-flop, on immigration and bridges do not matter.
- Biden's National Security credentials on the foreign relations committe is at least as good as Palin credentials.
- Experience trumps all arguments unless we are talking about the VP pick. Then it is who is more of an outsider.
- The republican party has gone spend crazy getting us into this mess and they are the only ones qualified to get us out.
- McCain's age is of no issue in who he picked for VP.
....I have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you guys.
See Bold Above. So here is what I am reading in this thread....
- If you don't buy into every single thing republicans are saying or find a single good thing about Obama then you are labled a neo-socialist and closet Obama supporter.
nobody labeled you a neo-socialist. I labeled Obama as one. You have yet to point to a positive about Obama as president that I would find remotely true or agreeable.
- Palin represents a better pick on foreign policy and executive experience than both Romney and Guilani. The political advantage of this person's gender is a bonus...she was qualified from the outset.
again, nobody said she was more qualified than the other two for the actual gig. I clearly said she's more capable of helping to win the election, which is exactly why she was chosen. Beyond that, there is no argument.
- Obama's education at Colombia and Harvard pale in comparison to McCain's bottom finish at the Naval Academy and Palin's degree from Idaho. What really matters is her stint as mayor and govenor and McCain's established 27 years in the senate.
If education were the true driver and raw intelligence the horse, Woodrow Wilson would not have been the disaster that he was. Please recall that GWB is better educated than Obama. How'd that work out for ya?
- Executive experience only matters for VP's.
The resounding point is that executive experience absolutely matters for the presidency moreso than any VP function. Any debate of experience leaves Obama wanting badly relative to McCain. As to the VPs, who freaking cares?
- Guns and oil are "good enough" for a VP's record.
Taken completely out of context and makes you look incapable of understanding the conversation you were having.
- McCain and Palin's....(gasp!)....flip-flop, on immigration and bridges do not matter.
flip-flops happen on both sides of the aisle. I'm cool with them when they're sensible. Don't pretend that everyone else involved in this election isn't a flip flopper. Your boy Obama is even trying to back away from his absurdity about sitting down with Kim Jong Il.
- Biden's National Security credentials on the foreign relations committe is at least as good as Palin credentials.
Biden clearly has an advantage over Palin in National Security matters. Who cares, they're the VP candidates. McCain's experience dwarfs Obama's.
- Experience trumps all arguments unless we are talking about the VP pick. Then it is who is more of an outsider.
The argument has frankly been who can help win the election. The VP choice is an overblown ceremonial gig that is about vote getting. Pretending it's more than that with some actuarial gibberish is just absurd. Hell, you probably can't name Carter's VP.
- The republican party has gone spend crazy getting us into this mess and they are the only ones qualified to get us out.
Spend crazy I agree with. Others can get us out, but I find Obama particularly unqualified. Of the 4 folks on the tickets, he is easily the most unqualified to talk about our current messes, economically and foreign policy.
- McCain's age is of no issue in who he picked for VP.
and it should not be in the least.
....I have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you guys.
No, I am not.....
I am 100% right.......
Lee failed at many things.....
If you can't see that, I can't help you....
Grant got administration which he learned from Taylor, Lee left administration to others who where not capable and it cost him.
