McElroy questioning UT offense

Um....he is in a minority thinking OU defense is not good. I have heard literally no one else say this, and a great majority of talking heads say the exact opposite. Not that I put huge stock in talking heads, but when pretty much every one of them agree on something, chances are its true. 🤣
Oklahoma beat Auburn 27 to 21, I think when we see how Auburn plays vs Georgia we will see something to compare. If UGA shuts Auburn out maybe Oklahoma's D is not as elite as some think, although transitive games sometimes give false narratives we have fun talking about something.

Man, it must be exhausting going through life this pessimistic all the time.

Heupel literally said himself ON THE FIELD after the OK game that he pulled back because the defense was playing so well so where does that fit in your narrative? I’ll wait..
He didn’t say that. He just said he held back. No reason given.

And to think, had we played OU in Neyland, we probably would have rolled them even worse, with our pristine turf and home crowd, and OU's defense would be ranked even worse.... I don't care if we have the worst ranked offense by years end, as long as we keep piling up wins. Let em talk.

It will have to be a lot better to beat Bama and UGA. It can continue on the way it is and pretty much handle anyone else though. As it's already been said a gazillion times, it all hinges on Campbell and Heard being healthy and playing at a high level.

How quickly some of us forget.

One week where we're missing both starting offensive tackles, where the field is a slip-n-slide, and where we're playing a smothering defense, and suddenly our lads have forgotten how to be elite on offense?

Just one week prior to the Oklahoma game, one stinkin' week, it was our offense that was "best in the country" and our defense that had all the question marks.

I don't care if you play Sister Mary's School of Orphans and Beggars three weeks in a row, the kind of offensive numbers we were putting up--while playing our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th string through the entirety of the second half of every game--was astrounding.

And now our OL is only average and our offense suspect.

Holy crap, some people have short memories.

Including apparently Greg McElroy.

Stop drinking his poison, folks. It ain't true. Our offense is hella good. And I think we're about to remind the football world of that. Like, tomorrow.

Go Vols!

Venables is an outstanding defensive coach who put in several special packages to confuse Nico. He knows details of the Heupel offense few opponents could know. In addition do not forget the decibel record breaking crowd noise and the fact that this was Oklahoma’s first SEC home game in a prime time telecast. Heupel ran out the clock and left town - proving full command of his former team that fired him.

Another fact is that 2 highly regarded quarterbacks: NC State and OU, lost their jobs after facing the Tennessee Volunteers.

With regard to Nico, Heupel has eased him into the flow from the redshirt season to now. Let Josh and Nico do their thing and the Vol offense will be fine. Nico is 5-0 in games he has started which is an easy statistic to document.

Auburn went up and down the field on OU, with Thorne at QB

I could care less about any opinion Greg has after his idiotic comments after we won the natty in baseball. He showed his true colors, he’s just another biased mouthpiece. He back tracked from his statement and then was high on everything Vols to try to save face for awhile, he meant it when he said it, but didn’t want to own it.

The film breakdown shows a different story. Our offense did enough to win against OU, but definitely did not look like world-beaters. Mentioned already is our OL depth and Venerables scheming, but not mentioned is how OU played a 5 man front and sat 6 back in zone the majority of their snaps. BV also had some exotic coverages and blitzes thrown in there, and were already familiar with our O due to previous coaches within their organization.

Hard to get a prolific passing game going when your guys are outnumbered nearly every time they go down field 3-4 vs 6. OU also did a good job at stopping TE releases because they have disciplined corners and athletes on the line that kept Nico from scrambling vertically while covering the TE and WRs. OU has a good D. Anybody who says otherwise doesn't have film or stats to back that statement up.

We are going to see this type of D several more times this season. Arkansas runs a variation, though they have a tendency to pull in an extra corner close to the box because they do not have the athletes up front to stop the run every time. Georgia runs this as well, and they have crushed Heupel's O each year. Nico will have to start making more contested throws into zone windows.

Assurances:
1. Love my Vols.
2. Win, lose, or draw, I'm in their corner.
3. Favorite color is blue, second favorite is green, but I bleed orange. And well, like everyone, I have white blood cells too.
4. Favorite utterance - Vols Forever!!!

Hater Bait:

I, too, question our Vols overhyped accolades. I want us to win every game, EVERY Games. I just don't fully buy the Rattus elimination allurement.
And I won't until we have been baptized in the boiling tub of our SEC schedule. Our OL backup quality is suspect, and rightly so. One man out, Heard, and our OL quality dropped right away, though scheming saved us. That won't fly with Bama-Ga-and other teams we play. But until we face those challenges, and show we can rise above such adversity, we are suspect. Milroy is right. Regardless, in Heup I trust, and come what may - Vols Forever!!!

Now, let's hear from the overzealous deniers and anti-reality screamers.

Maybe so but they are ranked 48th.
